Reducing Your Stress So the Holidays Can Be Enjoyed

By Donna Stark

The holidays seem to be a stressful time for many of us, but this year, they may be especially so. Between work, school, gifts, and finances, there has always been plenty to be worried about but now, there is the uncertainty of whether traveling to see our loved ones is a good idea or not. If you notice your stress levels are beginning to skyrocket, you may want to keep reading. Here are a few simple tips on how to stay calm and connected with family during the upcoming holiday season.

Sticking to Your Routines

It's easy to ignore your daily routines when the weight of the season is placed upon your shoulders, but if you do, your body and health may end up paying the price! No matter what, you need to stick to what you know, so continue to prioritize your sleep, exercise daily, focus on a healthy diet, and practice good time management skills. And if you have doctor and chiropractic appointments already scheduled, keep them on your calendar! Managing your days as you already do is key to being able to manage the stress of this season.

Practicing Self-Care

Aside from the healthy lifestyle habits you practice in your daily routines, make sure you are also treating yourself to some tender loving care. Whether that means an evening bath, an aromatherapy session, a massage, or just some extra quiet time to read a book, self-care is vital when it comes to reducing the stress and anxiety in your life. And since you know what works best for your heart, body, and mind, it's completely up to you to choose how you are going to achieve that calming feeling.

Deciding to Travel or Not

This can be tricky because it seems like things are changing on a daily basis, but only you and your family can decide what is best. With that being said, just make sure everyone's safety is kept in mind, and if you do decide to skip traveling this holiday season, that doesn't mean you won't be able to see each other, so let go of that unnecessary stress! Technology has proven to be quite indispensable this year, don't you agree? Sure, those video calls aren't nearly as special as seeing a loved one in person, but they can definitely fill the void. They are one of the best ways to stay connected when visits are out of the question.

Enjoying the Holidays

By sticking to your normal routines, practicing healthy habits, and letting the things that are out of your control go, you will be able to reduce the stress and anxiety that often comes during these last few months of the year. So go ahead ... embrace what lies ahead and keep your days filled with joy!
