Be Honest With the Chiropractor

By Paul Rothbart

It can sometimes be hard to admit to a medical profession that you haven't quite been doing all the things you should to stay healthy. Maybe you've been consuming too many calories or consuming excess sugar. Perhaps not exercising as much as recommended. Some people hide the fact that they are experiencing pain for a variety of reasons. They may be concerned a doctor will advise them not to participate in a favorite activity for a while or may be frightened of the potential treatment. Some just don't want to feel old. The fact is it is extremely important to be honest with any medical professional who is examining you. This includes the chiropractor. Here are some reasons why this is so.

It's Easier to Find the Problem When You Know Where to Look

If chiropractors don't know where or how you are hurting, it's almost like fumbling around in the dark. They may come across a subluxation or other big problem but more subtle things may go unnoticed. Pain in any part of the body could be caused by more than one problem. The chiropractor must know the details about the pain to find the cause. Without that information, the chiropractor will give you a general adjustment that may not help your specific pain.

Your Lifestyle and Habits Can Be Connected to the Pain

While you don't have to give away intimate personal information about your life, there are things your chiropractor should know. An extreme example would be if you tried a new sport such as ski jumping without fully training for it and had a fall or experienced pain afterward. Most people are not going to jump into an extreme sport, but you should not feel too embarrassed to share relevant information. A chiropractor knows what kinds of injuries are caused by various activities.

Your Chiropractor Is Not Going to Judge You

Chiropractors are licensed medical professionals and just like your primary care physician, want to help you. They will not judge or lecture you but merely use the information to aid in your exam, diagnosis, and treatment. Chiropractors will keep your personal information to themselves. The American Chiropractic Association has a code of ethics that its members adhere to.

Chiropractic care can be very helpful to a variety of health problems. For chiropractors to do their job well, you have to be completely honest. Consider a visit to The Joint Chiropractic. No appointment is needed and the chiropractors are licensed and experienced. It may make a big difference in your life. Honest.
