Flu Season: Don't Let It Put a Damper on the New Year
By Virginia Laird
The flu is a virus which some experts label as life threatening. While most who suffer with this virus will recover, there are many each year who suffer from complications. Many will choose to get the flu vaccine in an effort to avoid falling ill with this virus. Still, experts admit that this is not a sure way to avoid it, and there are many who prefer to skip this choice. Although there is little you can do to completely avoid this virus, you can use a few healthy practices to prevent the spread of these germs. A few tips offered by health and wellness experts to help avoid the flu include:
- Carry sanitizer all the time
- Drink plenty of water
- Clean your home and office surfaces often
Carry Sanitizer All the Time
Health and wellness experts suggest that carrying hand sanitizer with you is a great way to keep your hands clean when the sink is not available. It is suggested that you use sanitizer after coming into contact with people, going to the grocery store, or any other time you feel necessary. Keeping your hands clean is one of the most important steps in trying to avoid the flu virus. The next time you head to the store, grab a couple of bottles of sanitizer and start making regular use of this today.
Drink Plenty of Water
Research indicates that staying properly hydrated can help the body fight off illness. For this reason health and wellness experts have suggested that drinking plenty of water can help prevent catching the flu. It is suggested that you should drink at least half of your body weight in ounces daily. If you are one who does not have a love of water, you may find it necessary to start increasing your water slowly. However, keep in mind that water is the best beverage to help your body function and flush toxins away.
Clean Your Home and Office Surfaces Often
Because the surfaces of the home and office are high traffic areas, it is necessary that you clean them often. These include the kitchen and bathroom counters, as well as the dining table and desks. Health and wellness experts suggest that these services are the ones which may harbor the germs of viruses. Cleaning the surfaces can be as simple as wiping them with a disinfectant wipe. Start wiping these surfaces at least once each day, right away.
Now is the time to begin protecting yourself and your family from the flu.
