Do This to Stay Well Now

By Virginia Laird

Keeping your family well can be quite a task, especially throughout flu season. However, health and wellness experts say it is not impossible to do so. These experts also suggest that there is a wide variety of healthy living tips you can follow to prevent the spread of germs throughout your home. These include:

  • Clean the surfaces of your home and office
  • Wash your hands often
  • Wash your bedding often
  • Stay home when you are ill

Clean the Surfaces of Your Home and Office

Keeping the surfaces of your home and office clean can be beneficial in preventing the spread of germs. For the most part, these surfaces include door knobs, desks and tables, and any other place where people may gather. It is necessary that you take sanitizing wipes to these surfaces at least twice each day.

Wash Your Hands Often

Health experts say that washing your hands often is imperative when trying to prevent illness from taking over your home. Not only do you need to wash your hands often, but you also need to teach your children the importance of washing their hands as well. It is said that if you are washing your hands fewer than seven times each day you are shortchanging your own health. Make sure that you are washing often by washing after you visit the restroom, before handling food, after coming into contact with others, when you touch common area items, and many more times throughout the day.

Wash Your Bedding Often

Keeping your bed clean is another way to help prevent the spread of germs. Like millions of others throughout the nation, you may find yourself falling into your bed in clothing you have worn out and about. This is one sure way to contaminate your bed with germs. It is necessary that you wash your covers -- at least weekly -- focusing a lot of care on the pillows. As you keep your covers clean you can prevent your body from ingesting germs that may have come in from your clothing throughout the week.

Stay Home When You Are Ill

One of the greatest things that you can do is to stay home when you are ill. While you may believe you are doing your boss a favor by trying to work through your sickness, you are actually exposing everyone in your office to your germs. Rather than getting the whole workforce ill, it is best that you stay home when you are sick. Another reason why you should stay home when you are sick is that when the body is ill, it is more vulnerable to catching other germs. Do yourself a favor -- and those of your friends and family -- and stay home when you are ill.
