How To Juggle Your Family, Job & Everything Else

Sometimes after a long weekend with a series of family catastrophes, I find myself moving into Monday shaking my head. And the question seems to be, just how does all of this work?

If you want to do more with your kids, and need time to just drop back and mellow out, that becomes a conflict right away. Or maybe the weekend was really great, and you see the need for more activities, as your together time begins to work. But then you wonder where that time will come from.

Most people bump heads with reality when they try to please everyone and keep their sanity. One old soul advised, “To keep your head screwed on, have a plan and have faith.” And it really may be that simple.

Have A Plan that Works for You & Your Family

Do whatever you need to, as you figure out how your family works best, and what works to keep you up with your job, but not totally overwhelmed. That may mean lots of barbecues, bike rides to the park, and special night time sessions to sit around and talk at your house. At the same time, it may also mean making room for an afternoon off here and there, as you hide out and just mellow out in your favorite bookstore. It’s amazing how much that can do to clear your head.

Inc.com suggests figuring out boundaries that are fair and using them consistently to give both family and job, something to depend on. Keeping the structure helps keep you focused and makes sure everybody gets a fair share. They also suggest building a great support and outsource network to stretch your time. Whatever works, When you figure out what your release valves are and how to quickly turn them on, you will be well on your way to staying on track at home and on the job.

Then Just Have Faith

The leap of faith and that unshakeable confidence in yourself and your family can all work to pull things through. Some mornings as you scurry out of the house, with kids clutching projects, and you remembering to grab your tote, you may be just thankful that it all seems to be working. That’s what keeps us all going, that belief that we and the ones we love want it to work, and will do everything in our power to make it work.

Kids will surprise you. Just when you think you have it figured out, they will come up with some new solution of their own, that actually works better. Work will surprise you too. Just when you feel stuck, some new idea will make you smile, and see everything in a totally new way. So keep the faith and keep on going.
