Meet The Doctors

Dr. Chris Barras, D.C. is a Chiropractor at Arboretum-Austin

Dr. Chris Barras studied pre-medical professional studies at Lamar University at Beaumont and Austin Community College from 1987-1991. He was on his way to becoming a pharmacist when a trip to his chiropractor changed his career path. His first chiropractor told him that he really understood chiropractic work and should be going to chiropractic school. Dr. Barras says that in that moment he knew “that chiropractic was exactly what [he] needed to do.”

The best thing about chiropractic care, according to Dr. Barras is helping people get rid of that “something” that’s bothering them and helping them keep it away once it’s gone. He also enjoys “being able to expose the public to a non-drug, non-surgical, yet very effective approach to healthcare.” Dr. Barra joined the Joint team in 2013, but has always practiced in Austin, TX. “I love working at the Joint Arboretum because of the team we have here. We are super busy and have a great diversity of patients as well.” -Dr. Barras

If Dr. Barras could put together his perfect dinner party, he would invite, Ben Franklin, Nikola Tesla, Eric Clapton, and Steve Jobs. “I love to be surrounded by original thinkers.” - Dr. Barras He would definitely have a beer with all those brilliant minds. As Ben Franklin said, “beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.”

During his free time, Dr. Barras is either playing guitar, with electronics, out fishing, or having fun at the Renaissance Faire.

Dr. Barras says that the coolest moment of his life was when he became a father for the first time. “When I first looked at my son, I remember thinking ‘It all matters now.’ “ He now has adult children with his wife of more than 25 years, Donna.

Dr. Ed Fisher, D.C. is a Chiropractor at Arboretum-Austin

Dr. Ed Fisher, born in Stockton, California, attended Arizona State University on an athletic scholarship where he played football for the Sun Devils as well as coaching the freshman football team. Upon his graduation in 1972, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Health and Education, Dr. Fisher played ten years with the Houston Oilers professional football team, was a member of the every yard Earl Campbell achieved. Dr. Fisher first became involved with Chiropractic study during the football off seasons and, in 1987, graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College of Los Angeles.

Upon successful completion of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners, Part One, in 1988, and the Arizona State Licensure and Physical Therapy and Traction License, Dr. Fisher entered the practice of Chiropractic. Dr. Fisher has worked with teams consisting of multi-specialty doctors including family physicians, physical therapists, pain management physicians, and message therapists. Dr. Fisher has a strong background in athletics and sports injuries.

Dr. Charissa DeMara, D.C. is a Chiropractor at Arboretum-Austin

Dr. Charissa DeMara is one of the Joint’s newest additions. She joined our team this year and is making herself at home at the Arboretum location. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree, majoring in Nutrition and food Science from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan in August 2011. She then attended the Life University College of Chiropractic in Marietta, Georgia. Here she earned her Doctorate of Chiropractic in December 2015.

Her favorite thing about being in the chiropractic field is educating people about the benefits of chiropractic care and see improvements directly through their treatment.

“I have a great passion for working with pregnant women and small children because chiropractic care helped me so much during my own pregnancy and also my son’s health!” - Dr. DeMara

In Dr. DeMara’s spare time, she likes to spend it with her family, including her husband Daniel and son Jack. While she is the newest addition to our Joint family, she is expecting a new addition to her in September 2017! Dr. DeMara and her family love to spend their time outdoors, whether it is running full and half marathons or just taking their husky to the dog park and meeting other dog lovers.

While she was working on her bachelor’s degree in Michigan, she met a chiropractor who introduced her to chiropractic and educated her on the philosophy of the power of the body to heal itself under correct conditions through healthy diet, regular exercise, healthy mind, and regular chiropractic care.  “This changed my entire outlook on the way I wanted to help people through healthcare, and then I switched to chiropractic care shortly after!” -Dr. DeMara

Dr. DeMara says that the thing she likes best about working for the Joint is that it offers convenient and affordable care to all patients. “Chiropractic care is so important for everyone, and so many people are unaware of the benefits of chiropractic care that The Joint can really reach the masses!” -Dr. DeMara
