Dr. Austin Meindertsma spent the bulk of his educational career studying Gonstead, Case management and expanding his ability to assess and analyze patient from different points of view to deliver the best treatment possible. He joined The Joint in 2019 originally in Dallas, TX shortly after graduating from Parker University in 2018; and has transferred to the Joint Circle C to be closer to longtime friends and family.
He has been studying the human body as whole since he was 18 starting his journey as a Personal trainer and finalizing his studies with a Doctorate in Chiropractic, and the best thing he has found about Chiropractic is that it works! Especially with plenty of people and cases where they have been everywhere and anywhere with no real result or reprieve from their symptoms and conditions. The other great thing about this form of medicine is that it sets the body up as a whole to be able to what it needs and wants to do!
Dr. Austin really enjoys learning more about different techniques and case management tactics in his spare time, along with perfecting BBQ and building long lasting memories with long lasting friends and family. He is currently engaged to Dr. Constance Smith (who also works at The Joint!) and they have a growing family that currently consists of them, an English bulldog named Beefy, and a Red Eared Slider named Scarlett Persephonnie Jeankinns!
The coolest thing Dr. Austin has done so far is having multiple patients say, “You have saved me from surgery!” He feels so much joy in being able to help people get back to living the way they want to.
Dr. Austin’s perfect dinner party would consist of Tupac, Elvis, Jesus and Freddie Mercury. That way he can have a lot of questions answered while having a wide spectrum of entertainment!
Dr. Derek Musciano joined The Joint Arboretum at the beginning of 2021 and is excited to serve the community of North Austin. He has spent time in different types of clinics since graduating in order to learn how different styles of care can benefit patients. Today he continues to deliver a high quality of care for patients with a variety of conditions from head to toe. Dr. Derek’s favorite part about being a chiropractor is that each patient presents a unique case which must be evaluated and treated differently.
From a young age Dr. Derek knew he wanted to help people. After witnessing his older sister achieve remission from Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis through homeopathic means he became interested in healthcare disciplines outside the scope of western medicine. A few years later, sports injuries sidelined him in high school, so he sought the care of a local chiropractor. His results were so quick and helpful that he went on to intern in that very office for years.
Dr. Derek attended the University of South Carolina on an academic scholarship and achieved Dean’s list on his way to graduating with a degree in Biology. Since receiving his Doctor of Chiropractic degree at Palmer College in Port Orange Florida, Dr. Derek has worked at clinics in Florida, North Carolina and Texas. When he isn’t working with patients Dr. Derek enjoys spending time in the great outdoors, especially with his dog Daisy.
Dr. Barras (“DOC” or “Dr. B” as he has become affectionately known) is committed to helping others better manage stress and attain/maintain peak performance and to experience their optimal health potential through chiropractic care and self-care education. In addition to working with The Joint, he was in private practice with offices throughout Austin, Texas since 1996 and has spoken to local schools, businesses, and organizations on health, wellness, and safety topics.
Dr. Barras was born in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, Texas in 1987 as part of the National Honor Society and Who's Who Among American High School Students. Since childhood, Dr. Barras was always interested in how things work, and how things interact with their environment. As a young adult he was exposed to chiropractic care that successfully managed his ongoing back pain issues that had not resolved with traditional medical care. Intrigued with his results, Chiropractic became his passion. He completed his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 1995 at Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas where he was voted outstanding Intern of his graduating class. He is licensed in Texas by the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners and regularly attends post graduate studies to keep the information he presents his patients and the community fresh and relevant.
Dr. Barras lives locally with his wife of 30 years and their dog and cat. He has two adult children and two grandchildren. Interests outside chiropractic include cooking, renaissance faires, music and general tinkering with cars and electronics.
