Facing Lower Back Pain? Your Chiropractor May Help

Watching someone get hit with lower back pain is difficult. I saw a friend of mine go from a happy, hearty guy, to a barely recognizable person as he faced daily pain with no immediate answers. For most of his life he had been a hands on guy, supervising a road crew for highways, and heading off for hiking and fishing on the weekend. He was known for his work ethic and finishing the job no matter what. At the end of the day he might stop for a beer on the way home, and he always enjoyed a cigar.

He enjoyed his life and his family until lower back pain brought him to a standstill. The smallest tasks became a big deal and he resorted to lying down for long periods of time, which only aggravated the problem. He considered surgery, and tried pain medications. Then he went to a chiropractor for an initial visit.

The chiropractor used a spinal adjustment to help increase function and help bring pain relief. The chiropractor’s goal is to avoid surgery and pain medication by helping to achieve better spinal health and overall function of the body’s nervous system.

In addition to spinal manipulation a complete medical history and review of work history and daily activities is included in the assessment.

The two were able to work out an ongoing plan of treatment, that included work posture, ongoing therapy, relaxation and strengthening exercises.

My friend really wound up overhauling his whole life. He also needed to lose weight, smoke less or not at all, work way less hours and start maintaining a healthier overall approach to life. He found that his job schedule could become more flexible and his daily routine really did need to include time for exercise and relaxation.

With regular visits to his doctor and his chiropractor, weight loss became a reality, and a new daily schedule made room for walking and relaxing. After a steady course of treatment and general overhaul of life, he was able to successfully manage much of his daily activities.

By putting less strain on the back, strengthening the lower back and changing his overall approach, my friend was in a much better place. If you are facing lower back pain, you might see a chiropractor for some help.
