5 Ways to Get Your Family Fit in the Spring

Springtime often means many more families are heading outside to enjoy the nice weather together. While it may not be quite yet hot enough to swim at the beach and stay outside for hours, spring weather does allow for some healing time outdoors. With five ways to get the family fit in spring, now is the time to head outside and enjoy some activities.
Flying kites might not seem like such a strenuous activity, but it actually can help burn calories. Flying a kite takes a lot of effort, with the flyer having to walk and even run back and forth in an attempt to keep up with the kite’s pattern. The whole family can head out on a windy day and try this activity.
Check Out a Farmer’s Market
Many cities hold regulars farmers markets in the springtime, allowing families to explore all the offerings in an outdoor environment. The whole family can spend a couple of hours walking along the stands, trying to pick out which fruits and veggies they want to take home. They may only be available on a particular day of the week, so be sure to check where and when the local offerings are happening.
Go Collect Rocks
Walking along a river or creek collecting rocks can provide great exercise for families. Spend time collecting as many rocks as will fit in the bucket you bring, taking time to pick out some of the prettiest colors or most unique shapes. All that walking will give the legs a workout, and carrying some heavy rock collections can build strength.
Hopscotch is a common children’s game that kids enjoy. Draw squares on the ground with chalk, starting with one block, then two, and alternating back and forth so players have to either hop on one foot or jump back to two feet throughout the game. All the hopping and jumping will get the heart beating faster, making it a great cardio workout.
Wash the Car
Get the kids to help wash the car and see how much fun they can have doing it. Washing a vehicle may not seem like a workout, but it actually can be as people scrub and spray. If there are two cars in the family, wash both of them for some added effort.
Take a healthy picnic along to enjoy and make a day of whatever springtime activity your family chooses to do. Spring weather is ideal for getting outside after some time indoors and make the most of the outside space. The whole family can get fit and healthy together.
