3 Tips for Finding Your Personal Fitness Motivation

By Genevieve Cunningham

Getting fit is such a personal decision. Sure, we all want to look good. But actually carrying through with a plan requires a personal motivation that is individual to everyone. The hard part is not necessarily finding the right workout or the perfect timeline. It's finding the motivation to keep you going. So where do we start? If you're looking forward to getting fit, take a look at these tips to help you find your own personal motivation to help you get started and stay moving until you reach your goals.

Find Your Why

Your ultimate why is the reason you want to get fit in the first place. Superficially, most of us say it's for appearances, but when we dig deep, appearances usually have little to do with it. Get real with yourself. Why do you want to get fit? Is it for personal satisfaction? To play with your kids? To add years to your life? To build confidence? When we find our personal why, the process suddenly gets a lot easier because our goals are so clear.

Find Some Balance

A lot of people begin their fitness journey full steam ahead. They work out hard. They give it their all. But soon, they find that the process is more difficult than they thought. Instead of doing this up and down scenario, try to find a little balance from the beginning. It's not a race. It's a process. A lifestyle. Find balance in your workouts and in your diet and in your life. The more seamlessly you add these changes into your life, the more likely they are to stick long-term.

Love Yourself

If you don't love yourself, you're not going to continually make positive changes. Find some reasons why you're great. Write down your strengths. Write down ways you'd like to get better. Too many people think that they'll love themselves once they reach their goals, but the truth is that you're more likely to reach your goals if you simply love yourself first.

Getting fit isn't easy. It's hard. It takes patience and effort. It requires you to really dedicate yourself to better health, a plan, and to your own well-being. But if you can find the right motivation -- motivation that speaks to you on a personal level -- then you're more likely to find success. Use these tips to find your motivation, and enjoy the better health that is sure to find its way into your life.
