Things to Do If You're Stuck at Home Awhile
By Stephen R. Farris
So you're stuck at home due to unforeseeable circumstances. The kids can't go to school, you can't go to work and there's no timetable as to when things will return to normal.
The good news is you have plenty of food, the utilities are still working, as well as internet, and cable/satellite access. However, the days of being stuck inside seem to be growing on you and your family. After all, there's so much gaming and movies you can play or watch. In other words, your current situation is becoming old hat, so to speak.
So what else can you and the family do to keep boredom in check. Fear not, there are plenty of things, but you may need to use your imagination and a little creativity.
Rearrange Things
There's nothing cooler than giving a room a different look. It helps to break things up a bit, plus you have plenty of help and it won't take very long to do.
Cook
Why not gather the family in the kitchen and be creative by working together on some new recipes to try. It's also a great way to teach your children how to cook, especially when cookies are involved!
Games (the Non-Electric Kind)
Dust off those old board games that are sitting in the top of your closet. Board games are a way to bring families together for some fun and laughter, and you'll spend hours at a time trying to buy up make-believe property, or taking over the world depending on the games you have.
Dance the Days Away
Before you finish rearranging furniture, keep a spot cleared so you can turn on the music and dance the day away. Teach the kids some of the dance moves you had as a teenager, and let them show you some of their moves as well. Dancing is also a great way to get in a little exercise too.
Speaking of Cooking
Another thing to try in the kitchen is prepping meals for the week. This task can involve the entire family. Simply have each member cooking or chopping up a food item, sort of the way line cooks do at restaurants. That way you don't have to spend all your time in the kitchen cooking meals throughout the day. Just pick a day or two and prep away!
These are just a few suggestions. The possibilities are endless!
