Tools for Eliminating Neck Pain
Behind headaches, neck pain is the most common pain complaint of adults in America. Whether you sustained an actual injury from an accident or the like, or you suffer from aches and pains from the wear and tear of everyday life, neck pain can cause you serious and ongoing trouble. In order to keep neck pain under control, or hopefully prevent it in the first place, check out these tips for pain management and pain prevention in the neck.
Stretching
Stretching regularly can lead to increased flexibility and an increased range of motion. This means that the joints and muscles have less tension, which ultimately leads to less pain. If you are experiencing pain in the neck, look for stretching movements that are specific to the neck and spine. Always be gentle, and don’t push too hard and cause further injury.
Strengthening Exercises
Another great way to relieve or prevent pain is to strengthen the muscles surrounding the neck. This includes the actual neck muscles, as well as muscles in the shoulders and back. Strengthening these muscles will give more support to the bones and joints in this area. Giving your body more strength is a great pain management or pain prevention tool.
Massage
For tight muscles, massage can release tension or knots within the muscles themselves. While this only works for very specific types of neck pain, it can make a big difference in those particular instances. If you have a simple crick from a bad night’s sleep or an aching muscle, ask a friend to give you a quick massage to get rid of the pain.
Chiropractic Care
Regular chiropractic care has been shown to reduce and sometimes even prevent neck pain. Chiropractors perform spinal manipulation to ensure that the spine is in its proper alignment. This often leads to less tension, less pain, and an overall healthier spine from top to bottom. For help with neck pain, don’t be afraid to give the chiropractor a call.
