Get to Know the History of Chiropractics
I have to admit that up until pretty recently, I really didn’t know too much about the history of chiropractic. After failing for probably the tenth time to properly inform my friends on this information, I decided that I really should do some reading and research so I can learn more about this aspect of the medical field.
This curiosity is how I came across a post by Spine Universe about the history of chiropractic care and adjustments throughout human history. Interestingly enough, the actual practice of chiropractic adjustments and spinal manipulations is actually relatively modern, yet the importance of the spinal column and maintaining its health is a concept that has been circulating around the medical world since the days of Ancient Greece. Here are some more interesting facts I learned about the history and rise of modern day chiropractic care.
Most medical historians widely agree that the very first chiropractic spinal adjustment was performed in the late 1800s, when a Canadian healer by the name of Daniel David Palmer adjusted the spinal column of a patient who had reported feeling a “popping” sensation in his spine and back after bending forward one day. Once Palmer examined the patient’s spine, he noticed that one of the vertebrae was actually slightly out of alignment. History says that once Palmer corrected this with a carefully orchestrated manipulation, the patient’s health problems were significantly reduced. A few years later, Palmer began teaching this newfound medical practice to many students through a school he opened up in Iowa.
Of course, if you know anything about chiropractic, you know that it has been relentlessly pursued by myths about it being fake or even dangerous. This has been an issue since the very first early days of chiropractic care. Fortunately for today’s patients, the scientific community has been able to provide scientific research that actually defends and even encourages the use of chiropractic care in the successful treatment of a wide variety of health issues and maladies.
As chiropractic care continues to be studied and analyzed, clinics are now open worldwide and have helped many patients experience a way to find lasting health and natural pain relief that is done on their own terms. Feel free to walk in to your nearest The Joint clinic for an on the spot consultation, and ask as many questions as you would like in order to feel comfortable in the clinic.
