Dr. Justin Tomblin opened The Joint Chiropractic’s Denton clinic location in 2010, where he has served residents for more than a decade.
“Chiropractic encompasses everything I love about healthcare,” he says. “I get to make real changes in my patients’ lives without having to rely on medications.”
Dr. Justin was born and raised in Southern Oklahoma and enjoys working on and building classic cars and motorcycles, which he enjoys with his adult son. He also has a couple of dogs, an American Staffordshire terrier named Zoe and a red heeler named Gus, who’s an Australian cattle dog.
Dr. Justin attended Parker College of Chiropractic, where he got a bachelor’s degree in health and wellness and a doctorate in chiropractic.
“I remember wanting to be in healthcare since I was in high school, but knew that I didn’t want to rely on pushing pills for a living,” he says. So, when I finally decided to go back to school when I was in my 30s, I started applying to medical school hoping to become a surgeon of some sort. According to the staff and faculty at the school I was applying to, the surgical specialties that I wanted were really difficult to get, and if you didn’t get chosen for residency in the specialties that you applied for, you basically got relegated to a general physician pushing pills, which is not what I wanted to do. My brother suggested chiropractic school. I had only been to a chiropractor a few times in my life, so when I researched it, I found that it fulfilled everything I wanted in service to people. Now I love what I do and can’t imagine doing anything else.”
He has built a business and culture that he is proud of, and couldn’t be happier serving the people of Denton. “It’s really rewarding that I have gotten to know a lot of my patients on a personal level and become friends with them,” he says.
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Justin loves a couple of breakfast staples that he says he always keeps stocked in his refrigerator: bacon and orange juice.
If he could bring together any four people from history for his dream dinner party, Dr. Justin would send invitations to “Chuck Norris because he’s Chuck Norris,” he says, “Carroll Shelby because he created some of the greatest cars ever, Gen. George Patton because he was a badass, and George Carlin because of his intelligence and realistic views of society.” Dr. Justin is fortunate to have done many interesting things: “I'm Always Finding More Cool stuff to do and see.”
Dr. Romy Sagen became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2021 when she began serving residents in Denton, where she continues doing the work she finds so gratifying.
“The best thing about being in the chiropractic field is being able to help patients improve their overall quality of life,” she says. “It’s so rewarding to develop the personal relationships we have with our patients.”
Dr. Sagen was born and raised in Kansas City, Kans., and likes spending time in coffee shops, activities with family and friends, and hiking. She and husband Alex have a cat named Max. A product of Kansas State with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, she got her doctorate of chiropractic from Logan University in Chesterfield, Mo.
“I was always drawn to a career within the healthcare system and getting to work with people, and I was strong in my anatomy and physiology class in high school,” Dr. Sagen says. “I was introduced to chiropractic when I was a teenager following an injury. My mom suggested I see her chiropractor and I had a great experience and, afterward, felt as good as new. After that, I was pretty dead set on chiropractic.”
She really likes working at the Denton clinic because the work culture is so good. “I am big on interpersonal relationships and the environment of the workplace,” she says. “It’s rare to find a job where the staff works so cohesively well together and with patients that come into the office. You’re never unexcited about going to work. I am grateful to have found a place like that here.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Sagen always keeps her freezer stocked with lime popsicles: “They are the perfect thing to curb a late night sweet tooth.”
If she could bring together any four people from history for her ideal dinner party, she would include “Romy Schneider, a German-Austrian actress after whom I was named; Robin Williams, one of the funniest and most talented actors, in my opinion; Hozier, who’s one of my favorite musicians; and Gordon Ramsay because he can cook the dinner and add to the humor of the evening.”
Among Dr. Sagen’s coolest experiences was learning to sail while in Spain several years ago. “It was so cool because I was never exposed to that activity growing up since I was land-locked, and while I was there I spent nearly every day at the beach or on the water,” she says. “I have since forgotten how to do it, but that is one of my favorite memories.”
