We May Come Out on Top of Challenges

By Tom Herrin

This is not the first time that this country has been through difficult times.  As people look around and bemoan the fact that they are not able to be as free to move around as much as they are accustomed, it is truly something that can test resolve and discipline.  The desire to get out and be free to do whatever they want burns inside just about everyone.  While it will happen soon enough, people need to be satisfied with the things they can do in small progression.  As they go from stay-at-home orders to gradual freedom, it is still important to be aware of those things that must remain a part of life.  After being thrown together, as so many have been, some good things may be gained from the experience.  Some good habits may be formed.

Be Open and Creative

For those who may tire from what they perceive as being cooped up with other family members, it should have been an opportunity for them to spend time together they would not have otherwise had.  Depending on ages, that time may be spent as quality family time.  Whether the choice is board games, puzzles, a scavenger hunt, or some other activity that has been dreamed up, it can be a great way of increasing conversation.  This may help people to hear one another as never before.  Each may be able to learn much more about the interests of others.

Exercise Is Always Important

Whether people are isolated or not, they all need exercise on a regular basis.  Particularly when they are restricted from moving about as much as they normally do, they can begin to lose condition quickly.  Even in a case in which they are beginning to be allowed more freedom to move, it is simply critical to exercise on some kind of schedule.  Taking advantage of the opportunity to be together more can pay big dividends.  It may be the start of something good for the whole family.

Start New Practices Now

As we move into a phase in which we can do what we want more often, forming some good habits may help to maintain a better focus on the importance of being in shape.  We enjoy doing so as a family.  We also enjoy spending more time together.  Sitting in a room together rather than each going our own way seems to promote better quality communication.  We are more tuned in to one another.  I am hoping this will carry on when we all experience better times.
