Simple Falls May Cause Back Pain

By Tom Herrin

Whether or not people will admit to it, many of them suffer falls.  They may be the simple and embarrassing ones in which they are caught totally by surprise, or they may be the more complex ones in which something that should be substantial suddenly gives way and collapses.  Whether this is ladder or steps or something else, it can still do some damage to the back.  If you find that the only thing that breaks your fall is your back, and it causes you pain, a visit to  a chiropractor may help you forget that fall and find yourself fit again.

The Back and Pain

With all of the work that the back has to do, it is no wonder that it gets pretty beat up at times.  A sudden crash, such as in a fall, can jar it somewhat seriously.  When a fall is suddenly broken because the body hits the floor, the muscles that support the back must support the back in movement then catch it once it comes to a screeching halt.  This can cause these muscles to become strained.  The support may become less and a joint dysfunction can occur.  In this, pressure is placed on a nerve and pain is caused.

The Chiropractor's Work

When people go to a chiropractor for relief of back pain, they can expect to be given an adjustment in which the spine is manipulated so that the injured joint is restored to its optimal position.  When this happens, the pressure is taken off of the nerve, and the pain is relieved.  It is quite a good feeling.  Since it is all done naturally, no pain medication is used.  There is no risk of addiction or side effects.  Healing can begin immediately.  People may often return to their normal daily activities sooner.  At times, the chiropractor may suggest some exercises that can help to strengthen the muscles that support the injured joint.
