Take Time for Better Health in Fall
By Tom Herrin
By the time fall finally arrives in Texas, most people feel like welcoming it with open arms. Not that people don’t like summer with all the perks, but the break from the heat and humidity is refreshing. Many people are chomping at the bit to get out and enjoy the fall air. The temperatures are ideal for doing almost anything. Whether it's going to the state fair or taking in a football game, being outside is a winner. With that in mind, folks may as well take advantage of it to make some healthy decisions.
Start Your Own Game
Whether the preference is tennis, golf, or touch football, it can be much more tolerable in the fall. People can run or participate without fear of suffering from the extremes in weather while improving their overall health. As a college student, I began to play touch football just about every afternoon. Even though it was a very light and casual variation of the game, it wasn’t long until I realized I was in the best condition I had ever been in. I made some adjustments to my diet and found that I could successfully lose quite a bit of weight.
Our State Fair is A Great State Fair
Many people choose to find some time to do some walking. Going to the fair is a good way. The walking involved in some of these things can be pretty good exercise, especially if it is done on some kind of regular basis. For people who are in for a drive, a trip to Canton can always provide plenty to see and a chance to browse. These outside markets are great. People may spend a day walking without ever realizing they did.
Go Ahead and Check Out a Farmers Market
While you are in the fall spirit, give a farmers market a try. There will be lots of different kinds of foods there. Pick out the one that interests you, and try out a new recipe. Get a friend or family member involved and you can have fun making a dish you have never even tasted before. It is a good way to introduce family members to new foods so that they will be willing to make healthier choices. Together with the extra exercise, it will go a long way in your effort to begin a healthier lifestyle.
