Treat Type I Diabetes With Chiropractic Care
Type I diabetes is a metabolic disease that causes the body to destroy beta cells that produce insulin in the pancreas. Untreated, type 1 diabetes can lead to heart disease, stroke, coma and kidney failure. In order to live normally, those suffering with the disease are forced to live a life that revolves around monitoring blood sugar, injecting insulin shots and meal planning. Not only do those with type I diabetes have to constantly deal with the physical effects of the disease, but many battle with stress, anxiety and even depression. Recently a new study has suggested that chiropractic care can help people more easily manage their disorder.
There are many environmental risk factors that affect type I diabetes, including toxins such as pesticides and household cleaning products. Food allergens can also exacerbate the condition, mainly dairy, gluten, soy and peanuts. Children who were not breast fed or did not receive sufficient amounts of breast milk are also at high risk of developing the disease.
The study was done on a four-year-old girl in 2011. It was published in the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal and Family Health in November of that year. Although the child had not been vaccinated, had been breast fed for the first year of her life and was fed unprocessed, whole foods, she was diagnosed with type I diabetes at age 2. The case study found that chiropractic treatments enabled the child to achieve stable blood sugar levels better than without the adjustments.
The study focused on neuroendoimmunology, which looks at how the nervous system, endocrine system and the immune system are all connected. Dysfunctions of the nervous system due to joint dislocations are thought to disrupt the way the immune system responds to disease. Chiropractic treatments are able to prevent the dislocations from occurring as well as help coordinate proper neuroendoimmunology. In the case of the four-year-old, she was found to have subluxations in the upper cervical part of her spine. In two months she was treated 24 times and within that time period she was able to decrease her daily insulin shots from 15 units to 11 units. The results were due to chiropractic improving the neuroendoimmunology of the body, allowing the immune system to communicate properly with the other bodily systems.
If you are suffering from type I diabetes chiropractic treatments may help you maintain your insulin levels. Although there is no cure for the disease, chiropractic can enable you to live with diabetes in way that does not hinder you from doing the things that your want to do. Chiropractic is an all-natural, drug-free treatment that may be the supplement you need to help manage your diabetes.
