Why Childhood Chiropractic Care is Worth Considering
Chiropractic manipulations may seem like a rough treatment with all the cracking, pushing and pulling involved; but in reality it is a very precise form of care that is done with very careful maneuvers. Chiropractic work is actually considered very low-risk, so much so, that it is safe enough for children, including newborns. It may seem shocking that a chiropractor would preform spinal adjustments on an infant, but it’s a practice that is becoming more popular than ever before.
Some chiropractors feel it is necessary to adjust a baby immediately after birth. The birth process itself can be quite traumatic on the child’s body, so it is important that the spine get checked to make sure that all the joints are functioning as they should be. The problem is that if there are vertebral subluxations, then those dysfunctions can effect how the nervous system adjusts to the outside environment. Through chiropractic adjustments those problems are able to get corrected immediately, allowing the body to function at its full potential.
In order to maintain this level of efficiency throughout the nervous system, getting the child checked at every developmental stage is recommended. This could be when they start becoming more active, such as rolling over, sitting up, standing, crawling and walking. It is also good to get your baby checked if he or she is fighting off a virus or infection or has experienced any type of mild injury. For older children, the earlier they get treatment for problems such as neck or back pain, joint sensitivity and trouble sleeping, the better. Catching these types of problems early in a child’s life can make for faster and more permanent recovery.
Children who start receiving chiropractic treatment early in their life have been found to take less prescription medication, have less allergies and are able to focus better than children who have never seen a chiropractor. It even can help children who are having issues with bed wetting better control their bladder. Surveys have also shown that children who get regularly adjusted reported being happier and had an overall better sense of well-being.
If you do decide to have your child start receiving chiropractic treatments, it is important to do your research. Not all chiropractors are trained in treating children, especially infants. Make sure you start seeing a chiropractor who is experienced in younger clients and is familiar with adjusting childrenof all ages.
