Dr. Gerard Arcizo became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2020 when he began serving residents in the Houston area, where he continues doing the work he finds so rewarding.
“I love the ability to help ordinary people feel extraordinary,” Dr. Arcizo says. “The best feeling is after a patient’s initial visit and the look of relief they express. Not only do they feel better, but it makes me feel good knowing I provided a service that benefits someone else’s life.
“One of most gratifying things about being a chiropractor is the relationship we get to develop with our patients. We get to learn about our patients and their lives and what their limitations are, what their goals are, what their future looks like, and what their past has been. This is not a common thing for other healthcare professions so we are lucky -- as chiropractors -- to be able to have such great relationships with our patients.”
He earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology at Stephen F. Austin University, where he focused on anatomy, exercise physiology, and human performance, before getting his doctorate from Texas Chiropractic College.
Dr. Arcizo is a product of Houston who married his college sweetheart. They enjoy spending time together with family and friends, traveling, and nature walks. They have a husky named Blue who loves the outdoors, and in his spare time, the doctor likes watching sports.
“I always knew I wanted to work in a healthcare profession so that I could help people physically,” Dr. Arcizo says. “My father had a severe back injury when I was a child and was in and out of doctor visits constantly. Unfortunately, his issues were treated mostly with medications but not much physical help, so his issues became chronic and impacted his whole life. I knew, one day, I would find a profession where I could learn the tools to help him and people like him who did not find answers from other forms of healthcare.”
He is excited to be an ambassador for his profession. “I love that we are a new clinic in a new area where we can reach more people who may have not heard of chiropractic or have been wary of trying chiropractic,” he says. “We are a growing profession and I am proud to be on the frontline of that growth.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Arcizo loves a good beverage, and he always has a quality starting lineup stocked in his refrigerator. “I always have sparkling water because it’s so great,” he says, “sweet tea because I’m a Texas boy who loves his sweet tea, milk for cereal, and chocolate milk for those times when I want to indulge my sweet tooth.”
If he could dine with four people from history, he would include scientist Albert Einstein, golfer Tiger Woods, President Barack Obama, and astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson.
One of the greatest books he has ever read was How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie “because it taught me how to become more proactive and influential to the world, and to live a better, more meaningful life.”
Carnegie’s not the only one who gave Dr. Arcizo some valuable life information, the best he has ever received: “An old baseball coach of mine once told me, ‘Luck comes to those who are prepared.’ Ever since then, I knew it was up to me to be ready for any life challenges I faced and that I control my life destiny.”
Dr. Daphine Stroops became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2019 and has been serving residents in the Houston area since 2020.
“The best thing about being in the chiropractic field is being able to make a positive impact on the patient’s life by taking away their pain,” she says. “I feel this way because I love being of service to others.
“The other thing that is gratifying is meeting new patients because that gives me a chance to educate them and change their lives by introducing them to the power of chiropractic care.”
A mother of two sons, two daughters, and a German shepherd/Labrador mix named Alfie, she enjoys traveling in her spare time: “I love visiting new places and trying local cuisines.”
Dr. Daphine, as her patients call her, grew up in Wilton, Ark. “I learned how to be a social butterfly there,” she says. “This helps me to never meet a stranger, which makes my patients comfortable in my clinic.”
She earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from Grambling State before getting her doctorate of chiropractic from Texas Chiropractic College in 2015.
“I knew chiropractic was my calling when I prayed to God to lead me to the table or people that I should meet before going to a career fair at Grambling State just before graduation,” Dr. Daphine says. “I ended up meeting a college recruiter from Texas Chiropractic College! I never heard of chiropractic before this moment. I knew it was meant to be because everything just fell into place for me to get into this program.”
If she needed any additional confirmation, it came early in her career. “I had just started my journey at The Joint and this patient walks in bent forward, limping, in moderate to severe pain,” she recalls. “I have to admit to being nervous on the inside, but I told myself, ‘You got this!’ So I examined him and proceeded to treat him. I had him stand up and he was still hurting. So then I had him lie supine on the table with his knees bent, and used the drop piece on his pelvis, performed distraction to his legs, and he stood up straight and walked out of my clinic without limping.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Daphine always keeps water stocked in her refrigerator “because our bodies need hydration to survive.”
Her dream dinner party with any four people from history would include the developer of chiropractic BJ Palmer, Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., playwright William Shakespeare, and scientist Albert Einstein. “It would be fascinating to pick their brains,” she says.
Dr Julian Evans has been a chiropractor for over 22 years. He believes the body is already equipped to do the necessary repairs and healing on a daily basis; it just needs a little help. With the stress of life, commutes, parenting, unhealthy diets to just name a few, the body begins to go into a state of "imbalance", also known as "dis-ease" or "disease." By guiding the biomechanics of the spine through spinal manipulation and restoring mobility, the body, through proper diet, exercises and work-life balance, can begin to improve steadily. Dr Evans is passionate about giving the best spinal adjustment possible to help patients experience relief. He practices what he preaches and will only ask the patient to do what he himself does in his personal life. His recommendation is to get adjusted on a regular basis to give your body a chance. Pain serves a purpose to alert you that your body is experiencing problems and needs you to address the root cause, not just the symptoms. Dr Evans is one of the most honest, genuine and humble human beings you will ever meet. He does not believe in sugar-coating the truth. His direct approach has helped thousands of patients over the years improve their health. Dr Evans says, " if you are looking for an efficient and thoughtfully applied chiropractic adjustment I am your CHIROPRACTOR."
