Dr. Jason Basile joined The Joint Chiropractic at the Copperfield location on April 1, 2015, and his patients have been smiling ever since.
As a family chiropractor, he has been responsible for educating, examining and treating patients of all ages since joining the chiropractic field in 1998. He developed his reputation in Houston after attending college at Delaware -- where he earned a degree in exercise physiology -- and Life University College of Chiropractic in Georgia, where he graduated with the highest distinction, Summa Cum Laude.
“The thing I love best about being a chiropractor is being able to help people,” says Dr. Basile, who is accomplished in Diversified, Thompson and Activator methods, and was voted one of Houston’s Top Chiropractors from 2008-12 in H-Texas Magazine.
The spark of chiropractic as a career was ignited in his teens.
“After an injury I had in high school, when medicine failed to work, the chiropractor got me back on my feet,” Dr. Basile says.
While on his feet, he enjoys mountain biking and weight training.
His time at The Joint Chiropractic-Copperfield has been rewarding, he says, which pays dividends on both sides of the reception desk.
“We have a great team,” Dr. Basile says, “that genuinely strives to do the best for the patients we see.”
In Case You Didn’t Know:
Dr. Basile says the one thing he must have in his refrigerator at all times is Diet Mountain Dew.
If he had the opportunity to have drinks with any four people, he would choose tech visionary Elon Musk, mogul Mark Cuban, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
“These men are leaders in their fields and visionaries with differing viewpoints that would make for lively conversation,” Dr. Basile says.
And with a fridge full of Diet Mountain Dew, that conversation could probably go all night.
Dr. Mary Tran joined The Joint Chiropractic in Katy while serving as an adjunct professor at Lone Star College, a gig she continues even today even though she isn’t that far removed from college herself. She graduated from the University of Houston in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology-exercise science. Later, she then went on to earn bachelor degrees in anatomy, and health and wellness, as well as her doctorate of chiropractic, in 2014 at Parker University in Dallas.
She joined the Katy location in January 2017, but also works at The Joint’s Copperfield, Cypress, Cinco Ranch, Kingwood and Cy-Fair locations.
With such a strong educational foundation steeped in anatomy and how the body works, it’s no wonder that Dr. Tran is driven by “helping people get out of pain and restoring motion back into their bodies after having to live with dysfunction for so long,”
“Increasing the quality of one’s life is the most rewarding part of being the chiropractic field,” she says, adding that she’s fond of the saying, “Your health is your wealth.”
“With my cultural background, we took a more natural and holistic approach to healthcare,” Dr. Tran explains. “Taking preventative measures and maintaining your health through good habits is the type of environment I grew up in. The philosophy of chiropractic was congruent with my upbringing, and that’s when I knew it was my calling. My father had carpal tunnel syndrome and was advised for surgery. After watching his fellow peers have unsuccessful results, he sought chiropractic care. Through several treatments, his symptoms disappeared and he avoided surgery.”
Because of that moment, and that background and commitment to others, Dr. Tran says “bringing/increasing the quality of life through affordable chiropractic care” is what she likes best about being at The Joint’s Katy location.
When she’s not helping others, Dr. Tran enjoys attending festivals, cooking, trying new restaurants, and going to the movies and comedy shows. She also practices Krav Maga, a military style of self-defense -- though she prefers the healing arts.
In Case You Didn’t Know:
Dr. Tran is a big fan of great food, but she loves keeping a good juice on hand at all times, whether it’s orange, grapefruit or Kombucha. “Why? I’m not sure,” she says, “but it makes me happy.”
What would also make her happy is the opportunity to dine with some of her favorite personalities. If she could choose a foursome to join her at one of the great restaurants she seeks out in Houston, she would choose Food Network chef Ina Garten (“I adore her and her recipes”), financial guru Suze Orman (“I’d pick her mind on business management, what made her successful, and get some financial advice”), the Dalai Lama (“to spiritually guide me through the art of happiness”) and Ellen DeGeneres (“she’s incredibly funny, optimistic, and I admire her philanthropic work”).
Maybe someday Dr. Tran could visit the Dalai Lama on his turf. She loves to travel. “Adventure is the best gift you can give yourself,” she says. “Making memories and experiences are far more valuable than money will ever be.”
Dr. Mazen Zaibak, who is known as Dr. Z to his patients, joined The Joint Chiropractic’s family of healthcare professionals in 2017 with his arrival at Houston’s Copperfield location. Dr. Z attended the University of Houston, where he got a bachelor’s degree in biology, before going on to Texas Chiropractic College where he received his doctorate.
“The thing I like best about being a part of the chiropractic field is being helpful to people,” Dr. Z says. “I love the opportunity to build relationships with members of the community while I’m helping them improve their health and allowing them to perform optimally, which gives them the best chance of attaining success.”
He and his wife have a young son who keeps them too busy for hobbies.
Chiropractic, besides being a career, holds a special place in Dr. Z’s life because he has first-hand knowledge of its value. “I suffered from back pain when I was younger,” he says, “and chiropractic helped.”
He’s happy to provide that same opportunity to patients at Copperfield, which he enjoys so much because of the family atmosphere.
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Z says the one thing he always has stocked in his refrigerator is “O.J., because I need juice.”
Given the opportunity to bring together any four characters from history for a dream dinner, Dr. Z would tab Nelson Mandela, President Bill Clinton, Queen Elizabeth “for her knowledge,” and basketball player James Harden “because of his success.”
The coolest thing Dr. Z has done took place on his birthday, and you’d have to think a Rockets player such as Harden would approve: He flew an airplane. “It was awesome,” he says.
