Meet The Doctors

Dr. Danny Rives joined The Joint Chiropractic in 2016, and joined the Galleria location in 2017, although he also floats to other locations as necessary. A 1999 graduate of the University of South Carolina, he received his bachelor of science degree in criminal justice but eventually found his way to Texas Chiropractic College.

Dr. Rives also goes by Dr. Danny, but he often tells patients, ”Please, call me Danny.”

“The best thing about being in the chiropractic field is making a positive impact in people’s lives and improving their quality of life,” Dr. Danny says. “Another great thing is you get the opportunity to meet interesting people from all walks of life and backgrounds.”

Dr. Danny worked for five years in Baytown before moving to Houston. He enjoys attending local sports events, including the Astros, Texans, Dynamo, Rockets, and Cougars. He and wife Dennise also enjoy concerts, movies and visiting local and state parks, which they are also able to enjoy with a red nose pit bull named Emma.

He says his a-ha moment in chiropractic occurred when he saw results that aren’t typically associated with chiropractic, such as relieving back pain. Instead, it was something more far-reaching.

“The moment that I found out that chiropractic care assisted the body’s immune system by using adjustments and minimizing medication got me hooked,” Dr. Danny says.

Imparting that type of care is rewarding, as is the interaction with those he comes into contact with.

“I enjoy the patients at the Galleria location,” Dr. Danny says. “The location is great and the patient base has been nothing but nice to me.”

Dr. Danny has completed 120 hours of training -- and passed the board exam -- for the Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner (Physician) accredited by the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians; Fascia Movement Taping 1 and 2, and Performance Movement Techniques, from Rocktape; fully certified Graston technique provider; Performance Enhancement Specialist course from National Academy of Sports Medicine; and mixed martial arts Conditioning Specialist course from the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

In Case You Didn’t Know

In addition to his regular duties, Dr. Danny has worked with Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling in which he provided chiropractic services to wrestlers backstage during their shows.

When it comes to Dr. Danny’s needs in the kitchen, he’s pretty simple. He always makes sure he has sugar-free coffee creamer on hand “because, when I drink my coffee, I actually like to taste it,” he says, making a reference to the movie Pulp Fiction. “I do appreciate a quality creamer that adds a nice flavor to accentuate the taste.”

If he could have dinner with any characters in history, it would probably be a pretty raucous affair. Dr. Rives would enjoy the chaos and conversation provided by President Donald Trump, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, serial killer “Jason Voorhees” from the Friday the 13th movie franchise, and Animal House actor John Belushi.

“President Trump could compromise my quality of service at my favorite Mexican restaurant, and Gordon Ramsay would belittle the staff and heavily criticize the menu using expletives,” Dr. Danny says. “Jason Voorhees would keep would keep everyone on their toes and looking over their shoulders. And John Belushi started one of the most epic food fights in history.”

No doubt they would settle down for a moment to hear Dr. Rives talk about the days following the 9/11 tragedy.

“Probably the coolest thing I have ever done,” he says, “was being part of a group of soldiers and first responders who draped the football field with the U.S. flag at the old Texas Stadium prior to a Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving day game after Sept. 11, 2001.”

It was extremely emotional.

“This was at a moment in time that our country suffered a severe black eye and heavy heart,” he recalls. “What better event to have Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, and First Responders come together holding the American Flag during the National Anthem on one of the world’s largest stages, the football field of the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day! This was a statement to our countrymen and women that as Americans, we can come together to overcome any obstacle and defeat any enemy. This was a statement to our enemies saying, ‘Yes, you hurt us, but, we have regrouped and we’re coming.’”

Dr. Danny is currently the Battalion S-1 Officer in Charge for the 2nd Medical Battalion of the Texas State Guard.

Dr. Trevor Schoessow -- you can call him Dr. Trevor -- joined The Joint Chiropractic in 2015 and began working at the Galleria location in December 2016., He earned his doctorate from Texas Chiropractic College.

“The best thing about being in the chiropractic field is being able to see a patient leave your office with little or no pain after they could barely walk or sit down of their own ability,” Dr. Trevor says. “The other thing I enjoy is the opportunity to treat an assortment of different types of patients. This ranges from athletes, senior citizens, adults, newborns and pregnant mothers-to-be.”

In his spare time, Dr. Trevor enjoys soccer, yoga and spending quality time with friends and family, which includes wife Savannah and their black Labrador, Jax.

It was first-hand experience that inspired Dr. Trevor to pursue a career path in the chiropractic field.

“When I was 16, I was very active in sports and weightlifting,” he says. “While overtraining one day, I injured my lower back. For the rest of the day I was unable to move, sit, lay down, or even breathe, without having severe pain and muscle spasms. After seeing the family chiropractor for a few visits, I was good as new. After that, I knew this was something I was meant to do.”

Without question, the thing he loves about working at The Joint Galleria location is the interaction he has with his patients. “Each of them,” he says, “are very appreciative.”

In Case You Didn’t Know

The one thing that Dr. Trevor always has in his refrigerator is yogurt, and the coolest thing he has ever done was marry his wife in Las Vegas.

If he could create the perfect dinner party with anyone in history, Dr. Trevor says he would include the father of chiropractic, B.J. Palmer, former U.S. Olympic and Major League Soccer star Clint Dempsey, legendary Manchester United soccer coach Sir Alexander Ferguson, and polymath Leonardo da Vinci.
