Dr. Sohag Ahamad joined The Joint Chiropractic in 2021 when he became part of the team at the Hwy 290 & 34th clinic in Houston, where he does the rewarding work of helping people as their local healthcare provider.
“I enjoy transforming people's lives, helping them feel better and confident enough to try something they have not been able to do for a long time,” he says. “We take a holistic approach to healthcare, addressing the whole person rather than just the systems of a particular condition.”
Dr. Ahamad grew up in Houston and previously worked in Beaumont.
He and his wife, Sabrina, have six nieces and nephews who call him “Daddy.” The couple has a cat who Dr. Ahamad spends a lot of time with when he gets home from work.
A self-proclaimed “foodie,” Dr. Ahamad loves street foods and his wife’s cooking. “She likes to cook, serving food to people no matter who they are,” he says. “It is a big part of my religious belief.”
After earning an Associate of Science degree at Houston Community College, Dr. Ahamad graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He earned a Doctorate from Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena.
“My parents always taught us to help anyone who needs help, in any situation,” he says. “But it is always better if we do it with our own hands, and what would be better than this? Being a chiropractor means you give hands-on, one-to-one care.”
The most meaningful aspect of chiropractic work is the continual learning process while treating patients, according to Dr. Ahamad. “Experience plays a significant role in healthcare practice, seeing a high volume of patients with all kinds of musculoskeletal health issues,” he says. “I have a hunger to make my patients feel better and live better.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
If he could host a dinner party and invite anyone living or dead, Dr. Ahamad would include his parents and grandparents from both sides of his family. “It would be the party of a lifetime,” he says.
Some of his most meaningful memories occurred while struggling in his new life after migrating to the United States. “I learned a lot about life and how to overcome problems and succeed, regardless of the circumstances,” he says. “It made me what I am today.”
His favorite book is The Sealed Nectar: Biography of the Prophet by Sheikh Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarkpuri. “It shaped my life,” he says. “I highly recommend it to those who are looking for a role model for their lives in any circumstance.”
If Dr. Ahamad wrote an autobiography, the title would be An Anchor because “I have not let go of what I had,” he says.
Dr. Jonathan Ruiz joined The Joint Chiropractic in 2025 when he became part of the team at the Hwy 290 & 34th clinic in Houston, where he does the rewarding work of helping people as their local healthcare provider.
“The best thing about being in the chiropractic field is having the opportunity to help people move better and live more comfortably,” he says. “I love that I get to be hands-on and see real-time improvements in my patients' mobility and quality of life. It’s incredibly rewarding to be a part of someone’s healing journey.”
He was born in Fort Worth and frequently moved, but Houston has always remained a central hub for his family. “It’s a place I’ve consistently returned to and where I now feel most grounded,” he says. “Growing up with that level of movement and change helped shape my adaptability and appreciation for different communities and perspectives. I saw firsthand how stress, lifestyle, and environment can affect the body. Those experiences, combined with my interest in health and my background in athletics, planted the seeds for my eventual path into chiropractic care. Houston’s diversity and strong sense of community continue to influence how I connect with my patients and tailor care to their individual needs.”
Dr. Ruiz has two pets – Spencer, who is a pit bull, and a domestic long-haired cat named Princess Peach. “She’s been with me through many life chapters, including chiropractic school,” he says. “She’s incredibly affectionate when she wants to be and carries a regal presence that makes any space feel like it belongs to her. Patients who are fellow animal lovers tend to appreciate the dynamic between us, and I believe that kind of connection carries over into how I relate to and care for people as well.”
In his spare time, Dr. Ruiz enjoys movement-based training, snowboarding, karaoke, and playing chess. He’s also passionate about cooking, including exploring vegan recipes. “These hobbies help me stay grounded and reflect my belief in active, intentional living,” he says. “I have a strong interest in technology and science, especially physics, and I enjoy taking things apart and putting them back together. Whether it’s a computer, game console, car, motorcycle, or appliance, It’s rewarding to understand how things work and make them functional again.”
He earned a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science at the University of Oklahoma and a Doctorate at Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena. He studied biomechanics, anatomy, physiology, and neurology as well as various adjusting techniques and soft tissue therapies to provide more comprehensive care.
“I was working at Apple, helping people find solutions through technology, but deep down I wanted to make a more meaningful impact,” Dr. Ruiz says. “One day I helped a customer, a well-known chiropractor, who invited me to shadow him at his practice. I saw how powerful hands-on care could be and something just clicked. I realized chiropractic was the perfect blend of problem-solving, human connection, and movement-based care. I knew I had found my path.”
The OTZ Technique is an effective chiropractic solution Dr. Ruiz employs to treat patients with frozen shoulder. “I’ve seen significant improvements in range of motion and pain levels almost immediately after the adjustment,” he says. “It shows the power of precise, neurologically informed chiropractic care. Being able to offer a solution that helps restore function so quickly is incredibly rewarding and reinforces why I chose this profession.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Ruiz always has nutritional yeast on hand. “It’s a vegan staple with a cheesy flavor that’s great on just about anything,” he says. “It’s loaded with B12, which is important in a plant-based diet.”
If he could plan the ideal dinner party including four famous guests, Dr. Ruiz would invite:
Neil deGrasse Tyson - He would bring a cosmic perspective and a passion for making science accessible
Robin Williams - His blend of humor and heart invites authentic connection
Leonardo da Vinci - He had the ultimate multidisciplinary mind with a curiosity that mirrors my own approach to health and movement
Bruce Lee - A master of both martial arts and philosophy, his views on adaptability and self-expression continue to inspire me
“Together they’d spark deep, meaningful conversation across science, art, comedy, and discipline,” he says.
One of Dr. Ruiz’s most memorable experiences was climbing the tallest outdoor bouldering route he ever attempted. “As I approached the crux, I looked down and realized just how far I was from my crash pad and how easily I could miss it from that height,” he says. “Panic started to set in. My heart raced, my hands shook, and my mind spiraled with doubt. I felt frozen, unable to find my next move and too high to fall safely. Somehow I consciously set those feelings aside to process the fear later. My breathing slowed, my focus sharpened, and the noise in my head went quiet. I found my next hold, made the move, and moments later I was standing at the top of the wall. That climb taught me what it really means to be present and to move through fear instead of around it.”
A book that had a significant impact on Dr. Ruiz was “Unlimited Memory” by Kevin Horsley. “It completely reshaped the way I think about learning and retention,” he says. “I always valued knowledge, but this book helped me realize that memory is not just a passive function. It gave me practical tools for improving focus, reducing mental clutter, and retaining information more effectively, which proved especially valuable during chiropractic school. More than anything, it reminded me that our mental capacity is not fixed and that with deliberate practice, we can push far beyond what we once believed possible.”
If he penned an autobiography, Dr. Ruiz would entitle it “Bend Without Breaking.” “Life, like the body, is about finding flexibility in the face of resistance and adapting without losing your core,” he says.
Some of the best advice he’s ever received came from his older brother. “He told me, ‘Never be afraid to dream big,’” Dr. Ruiz says. “It has pushed me to pursue goals that others might see as out of reach, and to believe in the possibility of doing something meaningful.”
If he was asked for advice, Dr. Ruiz would say: “Get curious. Whether it’s with your body, your mind, or your relationships, curiosity leads to growth. Ask better questions and you’ll find better answers.”
