Dr. Michael Teagle became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2021 when he began serving residents in the Houston area, where he continues doing the work he finds so gratifying.
“The best thing about being a part of the chiropractic community is the patient interaction I get to have on a daily basis,” he says. “Seeing people from all different backgrounds improve their health is one of the most rewarding aspects of my profession. I love being able to find conservative solutions to complex problems.”
For relaxation, Dr. Teagle enjoys playing golf on weekends. “It’s the ultimate competition against yourself,” he says. “I always enjoy a mental challenge that has a physical component to it.” He also does strength and conditioning and practices Brazilian jiu jitsu.
He attended Texas Tech and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports science, then got his doctorate at Texas Chiropractic College.
“I played college baseball and had a career-ending shoulder injury,” he says. “I knew I wanted to help people through their injuries. Once I shadowed a chiropractor and learned everything they were able to utilize and treat, I knew it was the right path for me.
“I have had the opportunity to work with both professional and college-level athletes. I am always humbled by the opportunity to help someone at the highest level of their sport. But I also enjoy working with the weekend warriors and rec league players.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
If he could bring together any four people from history together for his ideal dinner party, Dr. Teagle would love to sit down with golfing icon Tiger Woods, basketball legend Michael Jordan, baseball pitcher Justin Verlander, and singer/guitarist John Mayer. “All of these people are the best at what they do and I am always interested in the mental approach of high-performing individuals,” he says.
A book that has had a big influence on Dr. Teagle is The Mental Game of Baseball by Harvey Dorfman. “Sometimes,” he says, “it is important to step back from the physical aspect of sport and dive into the mental approach to performance.”
The best advice he has to offer is “Invest in you whether it be mental, physical, or spiritual. Always work toward being a better version of yourself.”
The one thing Dr. Teagle always keeps stocked in his refrigerator is a carton of eggs: “They are quick and easy to make and are a great source of protein.”
Dr. Thien Tran began his journey as a local healthcare provider at The Joint Chiropractic in 2019, but it wasn’t until 2023 that he joined the Highway 290 & 34th clinic in Houston to continue doing the work he finds so rewarding.
“The best thing about being in chiropractic is that I get to return the favor of helping people the same way that a chiropractor helped me in high school,” he says. “I can get people back to being pain-free and to be able to do the things they love again.” Dr. Thien, as his patients call him, was born and raised in Port Arthur, Texas. “It’s nice to be back in Southeast Texas again,” he says, “closer to where I grew up!” His fiancée, Cindy, works at the Texas Medical Center in Houston. They have two dogs, a pomeranian named Toby and an American bulldog named Kanye. “In my spare time I like to sit back and relax with the pups while watching any sport on TV,” he says.
Dr. Thien pursued a degree in engineering before earning a Doctorate of Chiropractic at Parker University in Dallas. “The moment I switched from becoming an engineer to becoming a chiropractor is when a chiropractor helped me resolve a numbing and radiating pain that was traveling down my right leg,” he says.
He finds that every patient he treats is significant. “Just to see them out of pain gives me instant gratification,” he says. “One thing I like about working at The Joint is that I get to provide affordable chiropractic care to people who would usually get priced out of getting help.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Thien says he always has Blue Bell ice cream in the freezer, “because I'm a Texan through and through.”
If he could plan the perfect dinner party, Dr. Thien would invite basketball greats Steve Nash, Hakeem Olajuwon, Yao Ming, and Kobe Bryant. “You can probably guess I’m a big basketball fan, and these are the guys that I watched and looked up to when I was growing up,” he says.
When asked about his greatest experience, Dr. Thien says it’s “life in general. The uncertainty of not knowing what is going to happen day by day leads me to enjoy every day like it was my last one.”
One of his favorite books is How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. “It’s helped me become a better person and a better doctor, just by giving me different techniques and perspectives on how to reach out to and relate to all walks of life,” he says.
