Can Caffeine Really Ruin Your Chances of Success?

There is much debate about whether caffeine is beneficial or harmful to your health. Some studies point out that a cup of Joe can decrease cancer risks, while Entrepreneur just published a piece suggesting that caffeine is ruining your chances at success. Here is why they think you should skip the morning cup of coffee if you want to be successful.

Caffeine Interrupts Sleep

Caffeine has been found to take many hours to leave your body. Therefore, drinking coffee too late in the day can mean that it is still in your system when your head hits the pillow. This is not beneficial for your health because the caffeine then reduces REM sleep and deprives your body of the deep sleep it needs for essential recharging and cognitive skills. You can avoid this issue if you keep your caffeine intake to early in the morning, instead of using caffeine to give you a second wind while you drive home from work.

Caffeine Withdrawals

That energy slump you feel in the afternoon is actually a result from your body coming off of a caffeinated high. In fact, when caffeine leaves the body, cognitive performance decreases and moods worsen. The only remedy is to drink more caffeine.

Impaired Judgement

Caffeine is a great tool to release adrenaline, which can aid in a number of work related tasks. However, a caffeine rush makes you not so great at delicate work situations, such as responding to angry customers. Many times having caffeine in your system will cause you to respond quickly to a situation, without relying on logic.

Less of a Team Player

Too much coffee can also make it harder for you to manage your emotions and how you interact with others. You may also become more irritable and anxious. The scientific reason behind this is because a large dose of caffeine makes your blood pressure and heart rate higher. This ultimately deprives your brain of its normal supply of oxygen, making it harder for you to stay calm when you feel pressure.

Caffeine Stresses You Out

Feel stressed all the time? Your coffee cup may be the reason. Those who consumed coffee every day were found to have exaggerated levels of stress.

So what do you think, is caffeine good or bad for your health. There is research that shows both, so drink your favorite coffee with caution. If you think coffee is causing you to be stressed or moody, then it may be time to cut the coffee habit once and for all.
