Dr. Lyndsay Andrews is living her dream as a local chiropractor at The Joint Vintage Park after working previously in Kansas and Missouri. She joined The Joint in 2016 and serves as the Clinic Director for Vintage Park, where she uses the Diversified, Graston and Webster techniques, as well as soft tissue manipulation, and more to provide the greatest benefit to her patients.
Chiropractic is actually a second career for Dr. Andrews, who worked as a radiology technician for years after receiving her associate of science degree from Washburn University in Topeka, Kans., in 2001.
“I worked for chiropractors in high school and I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a chiropractor, but it was not a feasible option as my first career,” Dr. Andrews says. “I was a radiologic technologist and CT tech at a VA hospital for seven years. Then as my job became monotonous and I had advanced as far as I could go without going into management, I knew I didn’t want to give up patient contact while a calling to do more resonated within me .”
So, she says, she took a cue from her grandmother, who had recently passed away.
“We were going through all of her things and I saw all of the amazing things she did throughout her life; she was mayor of her city, she was a city commissioner, she started a Girl Scouts program in her community when there wasn’t one,” Dr. Andrews recalls. “Looking at all her accomplishments made me aware of the wonderful legacy she had built as a strong woman, and my mother had followed in her footsteps setting an example for my sister and I to be strong independent women as well. I felt even though I had a stable job and income with wonderful benefits, I was not living up to my full potential.
“That’s when I said to myself, ‘It’s time to fulfill your dream and start a strong legacy for your daughter and become a doctor, not just any doctor, but a chiropractor to use your hands to give people a better life.’”
Dr. Andrews went back to school and received her BS in human biology and doctorate of chiropractic at Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City.
“The best thing about being in the chiropractic field is being able to see visible results to my treatment and giving immediate relief to patients in pain,” Dr. Andrews says. “I love being able to help people feel better physically, which also helps them to feel better mentally. When someone has debilitating pain from headaches, or musculoskeletal pain, it inhibits their functionality in many ways. Being able to uplift someone and give them hope gives me a lot of personal satisfaction.”
Working as a local chiropractor in Houston has its benefits once she arrives at work.
“My team is amazing,” Dr. Andrews says. “We have a wonderful owner who allows us the flexibility to treat the way we see best, my associates are amazing and highly skilled at what they do and have a great bedside manner, and our coordinator is absolutely the best at what she does and keeps our clinic running smoothly.”
In her spare time, Dr. Andrews enjoys working out, the outdoors, traveling and spending time with her son, daughter, and their two cats.
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Andrews is addicted to dark chocolate, and she loves to cook.
“Cooking is a passion of mine and I love to make meals that others enjoy,” she says. Although she says it would take days for her to come up with the perfect dinner foursome to join her for one of her home-cooked meals, she would choose from “strong women who have achieved great things and who love to eat.” Might we suggest, Oprah Winfrey, Ann Richards, Cher and Mother Teresa?
One of the great moments in Dr. Andrews’ life took place after she became a DC. “The coolest thing I ever did was scraping together every penny I had after I graduated from chiropractic school to take my kids on a Disney cruise,” she says. “My kids went through a lot while I was in school and I wanted to thank them for being the best kids a mom could ask for. We had a wonderful trip and her children were able to visit three countries in eight days.”
