Foods for Clean Digestion
A long time ago, an enema was the answer to everything. I know...gross. But, it’s also very true. Even though they weren’t medically advanced, they definitely understood the importance of digestion. Your digestive system is made to clean out toxins and waste from the body. When it isn’t working properly, that toxin and waste stays in your system for longer than it is supposed to. This can lead to sickness, aches, and general malaise. To keep your digestive system healthy, check out these digestive friendly foods.
Lettuce
It doesn’t have to be lettuce specifically. It can really be any leafy green. Kale, spinach, and similar foods can do the same thing. Leafy greens are a great source of antioxidants. They also serve as filler foods. They can help you feel full instead of allowing you to indulge too much. That way, your digestive system has time to clean itself out before you fill it up again. Leafy greens are easy to add to any meal. Just make a salad and add it as a side for a healthy and delicious way to keep your digestion healthy.
Oatmeal
Oatmeal is a complex carb and it is also full of fiber. Fiber filled foods are made for cleaning out the digestive system. Along with helping you feel full (much like leafy greens), they provide you with enough fiber to keep your system moving. To add oatmeal, go for the real thing. No quick fix sugar packets. Add some real oatmeal as a breakfast item, and you’ll feel the effects long into the day. To keep it interesting, add fruit (see below!), and you’ll add double the healthy effects.
Apples
Apples are full of the 2 things that your body needs to flush itself out. Water and fiber. Apples have both of these in abundance! If you really want to keep your digestive system healthy, just add an apple as a snack everyday. If that gets boring, add honey or peanut butter to keep it interesting. Apples are kind of like wonder fruit. They bring multiple healthy benefits, and they do very little harm (if any!) to your body.
Though it’s not the most intriguing topic of conversation, digestion really is important for your overall health. You wouldn’t be able to survive without getting the waste out of your body. Use these foods to help keep your digestive system healthy and your body in better health overall.
