Exercises to Keep Back Pain at Bay

Back pain is an unfortunate side effect of living. Our lifestyles often induce back pain and keep us in a state of soreness. We’re simply busier than ever, leading to inevitable aches and pains. Luckily, there are some preventative measures you can take to keep back pain away. Here are some great stretches and exercises to keep your body in shape and back pain hopefully far away.

Stretch your back- Keeping your back strong and flexible is the first step in easing back pain. The back will be better able to cope with stress if it is strong and limber. Lifting small weights, practicing good posture, and completing back specific stretches can all help you take the first step in good back health.

Stretch your legs- A lot of back tension can spread into the legs and vice versa. Because the leg muscles are so big, many people find that keeping the leg muscles loose and limber helps with other areas of the body as well. There are numerous ways to stretch the legs. The hamstring stretch, the quad stretch, and the lunge are just a few of the ways to stretch this large muscle group to relieve tension.

Stretch and strengthen your core- The core is the opposite of the back, so it compliments the work that the back has to do. In other words, the stronger the core, the more work and tension it can take off of the back. To stretch the core, you can try stretches like the cobra. To strengthen it, try exercises like sit-ups, crunches, and leg lifts.

Stretch your glutes- The glutes are another large muscle group that basically connects to the back. Keeping the glutes strong and limber will ease the tension in the back, meaning less pain and achiness. To stretch the glutes, try the pretzel twist. This will stretch both the large gluteal muscles as well as the lower back.

Keeping pain away from your back is sometimes difficult, but keeping your muscles loose helps to take some of the tension away. When that isn’t enough, seeing a chiropractor is a great idea for good back and spinal health. At The Joint...the Chiropractic Place, you can walk in for an appointment, and their affordable prices make it easier for everyone to be seen and get the help they need. Use these strength and stretching practices along with chiropractic care to keep the spine healthier than ever.
