How Being a Mom Can be a Pain in the Back (Literally!)

Bringing home a brand new baby is a wonderful and joyous experience. You’ve been waiting a long 9 months to meet your new little person, and finally, they are here and joining the family. While it is certainly something to look forward to and cherish, it also comes with a few negative aspects. One such aspect? Back pain.

New moms are complaining more and more of nagging back pain. Whether it is back pain from lifting baby, back pain from nursing baby, or just general postpartum backache, you are most likely looking for a way to get rid of said back pain. Here are a few ways that new moms have nipped back pain in the bud.

Get More Rest

I know that probably sounds impossible when you have a little one at home, but rest really can relieve a bit of pain in the back. Holding roughly 10 pounds, lifting them up and down, and bending and stooping all day to meet their needs can do a number on your already tender back.

To get more rest, ask your significant other, a trusted family member, or a friend to watch baby while you sleep. If you are not ready to leave little one alone, ask them to watch them in your house so you will only be a room away. Getting just a little bit more rest can give your back, body, and brain some much needed down time.

Sneak In Some Exercise

This is another area that probably suffers quite a bit after you bring home a baby. Not only is your body suffering, but baby is zapping your energy and sleep has become a thing of the past. For that stubborn postpartum backache, however, a little exercise can provide some much needed relief.

Getting out and about can also boost your mental health, which often needs a pick me up during these new baby times. To get a little exercise, take baby for a walk around the block, turn on some music and dance, or do whatever form of movement makes you happy.

Chiropractic Care

Getting chiropractic care throughout your pregnancy and after can help fight postpartum backache, back pain from lifting and carrying baby, or whatever sorts of aches and pains plague you. A chiropractor is often able to align the spine properly, which gives your body the opportunity to work efficiently. If you don’t know where to go, check out The Joint...the Chiropractic Place.

With a little one, your life is busy, but at The Joint, walk ins are accepted daily, so you can get care on your (or your baby’s!) schedule. Affordable pricing also makes it easier than ever to get the care you need. A chiropractor at The Joint may be able to align your spine and get rid of your postpartum backache for good.
