Dr. Celeny Rios became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in Houston in 2022, and in 2023 she began serving residents at the Pearland Parkway clinic, continuing the work she finds so rewarding.

“I enjoy being able to help all my patients understand the body’s capacity to heal itself and the impact they have on their own health and well-being,” she says. “I love the opportunity to treat patients using my hands and to impart knowledge to those in other countries where they don’t have access to the same treatment options.”

Dr. Rios grew up on a farm in the countryside in Puerto Rico. She has served on the mission field in the Caribbean and Central and South America. She previously worked as a chiropractor in Houston, Kemah, Webster, and League City.

“Because I grew up on a farm, I love all animals – chickens, cats, dogs, and cows,” she says. “And I really like reptiles.”

She also enjoys cooking, going to the gym, surfing, and hiking. “I really love the outdoors, so I go to national parks in my free time,” she says.

Dr. Rios earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Microbiology at the University of Notre Dame. She conducted postgraduate research at UMass Boston before earning a Doctorate at Texas Chiropractic College.

“From a young age I wanted to become a doctor to help patients, particularly people who don’t have resources,” she says. “I grew up in other countries seeing how badly patients were treated by medical professionals, my grandmother included. I told my family that when I became a doctor I would treat all my patients with respect and dignity.”

Dr. Rios became aware of the effectiveness of chiropractic care when she fell while hiking in Northern Michigan. “My low back did not heal after going to various doctors, taking multiple medications, and trying physical therapy,” she says. “I was in major pain, so one of my friends insisted I see a chiropractor. After one visit my pain was reduced by 80 percent and eventually I stopped suffering from migraines. I was shocked that my body could heal itself so fast without any other intervention or medication.”

One of her most memorable experiences as a chiropractor involved an 85-year-old patient who was in a lot of pain following a surgery. “She was hesitant, but she gave chiropractic a shot, and after the first treatment she was out of pain,” Dr. Rios says. “She eventually gained sensation in both legs and told me that treatment had changed her life.”

She always keeps fresh food on hand including: sweet potatoes, eggs, chicken breasts, lactose-free milk, cheese, lettuce, sauerkraut, alkaline water, tomatoes, steak, and ground beef.

Dr. Rios’ favorite books are the Bible, The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman, and Food Fix: How to Save Our Health, Our Economy, Our Communities, and Our Planet -- One Bite at a Time by Mark Hyman.

If she wrote an autobiography, Dr. Rios would entitle it Resilience.

Dr. Montgomery Stanley became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in Houston in 2017, and in 2024 he began serving residents in Pearland with the work he finds so rewarding.

“I love being a chiropractor because it allows me to directly see the impact I'm having in my patients’ lives in real time,” he says. “The ability to watch my patients steadily improving – visit to visit and week to week – is what makes this worth it to me.”

Dr. Stanley believes there is more to learn and discover about how chiropractic influences patient care. “The profession has only been formally studied for just over 100 years,” he says. “And as our understanding and research of the human body increases, so too does our understanding of how chiropractic truly plays such an important role in health and wellness.”

A native of Houston, Dr. Stanley spends the majority of his free time volunteering with the Texas Chiropractic Association, serving on multiple committees and on the Board as the State Director of District 11. He truly believes in its mission of uniting chiropractors across the state of Texas to further the profession and provide a community for all chiropractors. He also volunteers with the Texas Chiropractic College, promoting chiropractic and assisting students with developing their professional skills. Dr. Stanley still makes time for personal enrichment by attending weekend seminars across the state, spending time with family and friends, and studying to become a Registered Parliamentarian.

He graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science and he earned a Doctorate at Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena.

“When I was in college I threw out my low back,” he says. “I went to the campus doctor and was prescribed vicodin and a muscle relaxer. The medications left me unable to learn in classes, but the pain was so intense I couldn't focus on anything else. After six months my mom convinced me to see her chiropractor, and after my first visit I was without pain for an entire week.”

One of Dr. Stanley’s most memorable experiences as a chiropractor was treating a new patient with chronic low back pain who could not sit for more than five minutes without pain. “He had multiple MRIs with no results, went to multiple doctors, and had injections with no help,” he says. “We got to talking and he told me about the slip-and-fall he'd experienced years prior that started this pain. After checking him over, I discovered that it was actually a misalignment of the tailbone that had gone undiagnosed. After a few visits, he could sit for two hours before the pain started, and was discharged after a few more visits because painful symptoms were gone.”

In Case You Didn’t Know

Dr. Stanley always keeps ketchup on hand. “I'm an addict and it goes on so many things,” he says.

If he could plan the ideal dinner party including four famous guests, Dr. Stanley would invite British mathematician Alan Turing, 19th-century poet Lord Byron, ancient Greek philosopher Diogenes, and Alexander the Great. “I have no idea where this conversation would go, but I imagine it would be a wild night,” he says.

Dr. Stanley has had his greatest experiences since joining the Texas Chiropractic Association. “I was kind of isolated after I graduated because I didn't know many others in the profession beyond my small friend group,” he says. “A friend convinced me to join a committee geared towards new doctors and I was a little reluctant at first, but that introduced me to thousands of doctors and really opened my eyes to the way chiropractic is more than just a profession.”

His favorite book is How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. “It really influenced my communication skills as both a doctor and a person, allowing me to become a more engaged, active listener,” he says.
