Want to Improve Your Health? Try This

By Virginia Laird

Like many others around the country, I decided with the excitement of the new year that I wanted to focus on my overall health and wellness. With this in mind, I set out to research and determine which course of action would be best for my lifestyle and pocketbook. Fortunately, I ran across a list provided by health and wellness professionals which recommended several ways to improve health without spending big bucks or requiring a great deal of time at the gym. Some of these suggestions include:

  • Drink plenty of water
  • Get some sleep
  • Prioritize exercise

Drink Plenty of Water

Those who are serious about improving their health should begin by increasing the amount of water consumed. Water is the key to a healthy foundation. Health and wellness professionals advise that you should drink at least half of your body weight in ounces daily. This can help keep you hydrated, flush out harmful toxins, and keep your digestive system functioning well. In fact, this is a health tip that may actually save you money if you spend a lot on soda pop.

Get Some Sleep

Another priority when making steps to improve your health is to prioritize sleep. All too often, sleep is pushed to the back burner while trying to stay caught up on work, household chores, or playing taxi to your children. Without the proper amount of rest, the body can be worn down and more vulnerable to illness. It is recommended that the average adult should get at least six hours of sleep each night. Still, some adults require much more. Make sure you get enough sleep routinely to help keep you healthy.

Prioritize Exercise

Improving your health is something that, as you age, you begin to take more seriously. Exercise is one of the things which needs to be prioritized when trying to meet your personal health and wellness goals. This does not mean you need to spend hours at the gym, although attending a workout class could be great. A simple brisk walk or bike ride through your neighborhood can do the trick. Other fitness things to try can include yoga, stretching, and swimming. The choices of exercises to try are endless, so don’t let disliking just one or two keep you from getting moving.

Hopefully, you are ready to begin your path to a healthier you. Take it one day at a time, knowing even with these small changes, there are times that will seem difficult. Good luck!
