Getting Back to a Routine Is Easy With These Tips

By Donna Stark

Whether your summer was filled with rest and relaxation or daily activities and exciting adventures, there is one thing that all families with children have in common -- the start of school is right around the corner. And that means everyone has to get back to a regular routine. Unfortunately, going from a summer of fun to a season of learning can be a difficult adjustment to make, so your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic have listed a couple of suggestions that may make the transition a bit easier for everyone. Take a look at what they recommend below.

Transition Early

Going from one routine to another can be hard, but it's especially challenging when the two routines are so completely different from each other. You may want to ease your children into it slowly, so before their school even thinks about opening their doors, start waking your children up earlier, get them back to following a morning routine that is on a schedule, hand them a book or two instead of the remote, and send them to bed at the same time every night. And if you meal prep their school lunches and snacks, start practicing that with your children too!

Get Back to Healthier Habits

If you want your children to be mentally and physically prepared for school when it opens, you need to be consistent with healthy habits once again. That could mean healthier snacks in the pantry, nutrient-dense meals on the dinner table, daily movement for everyone in the family, and adequate sleep! It's perfectly fine if you relaxed some rules over the summer, but now, with all the hours in school and extracurricular activities in the evenings, your children's bodies need to be in peak form. Here are some suggestions to get you started.

  • Finish those bags of chips in the pantry and start replacing with trail mix, applesauce, and homemade granola bars
  • Fill your refrigerator with ready-to-eat vegetables and fruit
  • Increase your children's nutritional intake by incorporating more whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins to their diet
  • Fit exercise into your family's schedule as often as you can
  • Remove electronic devices from bedrooms so everyone will be sure to get the recommended amount of sleep

Getting Back to a Routine

The chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic hope your children have a great and healthy start to the upcoming school year. Good luck with what lies ahead, and remember, if there are any disruptions to the health of your family, they are always right around the corner and ready to help!
