Easy Ways to Make Time for Exercise

By Sara Butler

Many people want to exercise but struggle to find the time to do it. As you're probably well aware, the desire to exercise isn't enough to actually make you follow through. No, if you want to exercise, then you must make it a part of your day. There are a variety of ways you can achieve this. Here are a few ideas to help you get started and finally really make the time to get your workout in.

Create an Appointment

Be honest, you keep important appointments, even ones you don't enjoy because they're important to your health and wellness. Schedule time for the gym; it can be as simple as that to help you find the commitment to get it done for your health.

To help make this appointment work, make sure to keep it consistent. Putting it on your phone with a reminder or in your day planner as an appointment is no different than other appointments you need to keep. An even better way to ensure accountability? Bring a buddy on board to work out with you. If you have to meet someone there, you're more likely to go.

Create a Goal

Fitness goals are a great way to get motivated and stay that way. They help to give you permission to exercise but the key is to make them attainable. Sure, you can create one really big goal but it's also important to create a few small goals along the way to help you stay motivated.

Do It First Thing

It may not be ideal to wake up at the crack of dawn to get your workout in, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do to succeed. You can cross that exercise session off your list first thing and rev up your metabolism at the same time to help improve your energy throughout the day. If you can get into the groove, then it's a great way to get your exercise in and be consistent.

Get It Done at Lunch

If waking up early isn't your thing, then think about getting your sweat session in during your lunch break. If you have an hour you may be able to squeeze in a yoga class or even go for an invigorating walk. If you can get into this as a habit it's a great way to get your exercise in as well as a mental break from work to help your afternoons be a little bit less painful.

Exercise isn't always easy, but it will always be worth it. Do what you can to make movement a part of your day.
