Four Things Never to Leave in Your Bathroom
By Sara Butler
The bathroom can become quite a magnet for the things you use every day. The problem is that because so many things occur in the bathroom it can be a dirty place. Just because it’s a frequently used room doesn’t mean that everything should be kept together in one place for convenience – precisely because so many different things happen in there! Here are four things you should never leave in your bathroom!
Your Toothbrush
The toothbrush is definitely one of the most common items left in a bathroom but it really shouldn’t be. Researchers have found that 60 percent of the time, fecal matter is found on toothbrushes left in the bathroom. Aside from that disturbing statistic, leaving your toothbrush in the often damp bathroom promotes the growth of bacteria, no matter how you store it. The answer is pretty simple: Store your toothbrush in a part of the house that is dry – your bedroom is a great example. Put that bad boy on your dresser and pick it up to use as you go to the bathroom each day and night.
Medication
The heat and humidity of a bathroom is a very bad thing for medication. It diminishes its effectiveness, which can be a big problem if it’s medication you depend on to stay healthy. To store your medications properly you should:
- Choose a space that’s dry and clean – A drawer in the bedroom or in your closet are great places for medication. Avoid the kitchen, as it presents the same problems as the bathroom.
- Keep in original packaging – This allows you to keep track of their expiration as well as identify them when needed.
- Keep out of children’s hands – No matter where medication is stored, it should be out of reach of tiny hands.
Makeup
Keeping your makeup in the bathroom will cause it to expire faster since the heat and humidity damage the products. In some cases, it can even make the product dangerous to use as it encourages the growth of bacteria. Keep makeup in a dry place, such as your bedroom.
Perfume
If you love your fragrances, then keep them out of your bathroom. The high temperatures and steam from the bath can change the fragrance, making that Chanel No. 5 more like Chanel No. 4 – it’s just not what it used to be!
Your bathroom can become a catch-all for everything you use in there. You must be diligent not to let it for the sake of your health!
