Why Holiday Shoppers Should Visit the Chiropractor

By Brandi Swieter

The holidays get filled with trips to the mall and shopping at local stores. Whether someone is simply looking for gifts for their friends and family, or trying to take advantage of Black Friday deals for themselves, shopping during the holiday season can leave many people feeling pained. Walking for hours on end searching for the perfect gift or savings can leave shoppers with sore legs and backs that require chiropractic care.

Improper Shoes for Shopping

Shopping can be even harsher on the body if the wrong shoes get worn during the trip. Wearing improper shoes for shopping can leave people in need of a visit to the chiropractor to fix aches and pains that have formed in the body. Forget the stylish stilettos while in the store and be sure to wear a pair of comfortable and supportive tennis shoes for the activity instead.

Excessive Bag Carrying

Many holiday shoppers purchase their gifts from the mall so they can get every person on their list done at the same time. Doing so may seem like a great idea, but it turns into a bad decision after realizing there are far too many bags to carry home. Excessive bag carrying can weigh heavily on the body, leaving it sore and in pain in several places. The chiropractor should get seen after this so the body can get realigned. To avoid this issue, rent a locker and keep bags in there throughout the trip rather than carrying them all over the mall.

No Prior Stretching

Before any activity, participants should stretch to get their bodies prepared for the task at hand. Stressful times like holiday shopping and searching for the right gift can make the body less flexible and able to handle simple movements. Stretching prior to shopping will help to loosen up the muscles and ensure they can take on the task easily. It is also ideal to stretch after the shopping excursion is over. Without stretching, a chiropractor may need to be seen to help work out the muscles and get the body back in prime working condition.

The holiday season leaves many shoppers feeling pained and misaligned. Whether only the legs and feet hurt afterward or the back starts to ache as well, anyone suffering can visit a chiropractor to receive an assessment and see what needs to get done to correct the problem. Visit The Joint Chiropractic during their extended evening and weekend hours to discuss options. Walk-ins are welcome.
