A Chiropractor's Advice for Healthier Kids

The health of our children should always be a priority. Every Kid Healthy Week, celebrated near the end of April, helps us learn ways we can keep them healthy and well at all times. It primarily focuses on the ways in which schools promote health for their students, including through physical activity, nutrition, and keeping kids ready to learn. Parents and educators alike can take advice from chiropractors to better ensure the wellness of children during Every Kid Healthy Week and any other week throughout the year. 

Follow Safety Protocols for All Activities

Keeping our kids safe is also part of keeping them healthy. A broken bone or fracture can leave kids laid up on the couch for weeks, preventing them from feeling their best. Stress to the bodies also makes it easier for sickness to set in. Following safety protocols, such as using knee pads, elbow pads, helmets, and other safety gear when performing certain physical activities is a huge help in this area. 

Offer Healthy Meal Selections

Feeding our children fast food and junk is not going to do them any favors. Healthy meal selections are important to helping them maintain their overall health. Avoid giving kids soda pop and juice; instead, encourage them to drink water. Get them a colorful water bottle they'll enjoy drinking from so they're more likely to consume more. Offer fruits and veggies at every meal. It's also wise to provide a few choices. Instead of giving kids an apple at lunchtime, ask if they'd rather have an apple or some carrot sticks. Allowing them to choose helps them feel better about what they're eating and more likely to finish it. 

Encourage Chiropractic Care

Children of all ages can benefit from chiropractic care. Infants can be adjusted so the trauma caused to their bodies during labor can be alleviated. Young kids with frequent sickness can have their immune systems improved. Older children with more responsibility and heavier bags to carry daily can reduce their discomfort. A chiropractor can perform a gentle adjustment on a child to help promote overall wellness just as easily as they can for adults.
