Hip Health: How a Chiropractor Can Help
By Brandi Goodman
Hips don't lie in Shakira's song nor in real life. When your hips are hurting, they're trying to tell you something. Allowing them to continue to ache and not doing anything about it could result in some excruciating pain and further problems down the line. See a chiropractor and get help for your hip health.
Determining the Cause
You may be unsure of exactly why your hips have been hurting lately. A chiropractor can help you to determine the cause. He or she will ask you some questions that may jar your memory as to when this pain started and why. For example, you may realize they started to ache one morning after you woke up. The way you sleep could be a problem. Perhaps you fell and that started the ache. The chiropractor will help you find that out.
If nothing happened that you can remember, they will check to ensure all joints are in place and in good health as far as they can tell. A joint restriction could be the culprit for your discomfort. A pinched nerve elsewhere in the body can even be the cause of your pain. An assessment will be needed to determine which it is.
Hip Stretches
Your chiropractor may instruct you on the proper technique for certain stretches. Hip stretches can come in handy when you're starting to feel an ache in that area. You may even want to add them to your daily routine so you can strengthen the hips and prevent problems for this area of the body. Simply having one knee down on the ground and the opposite foot on the ground in front is one option. It will help to stretch one side at a time.
A Preventative Plan
It is important to follow a preventative plan. Your chiropractor may offer a plan to follow or provide some suggestions that you should incorporate into a plan of your own. Regular chiropractic care, regular stretching, exercising, and nutrition should all be part of it.
