How to Fight Headaches Naturally
By Sara Butler
Headaches can be more than a pain in the head. Headaches can get in the way of your life and your productivity. If you have issues with headaches on a regular basis, then there's a good chance they're a message from your body that something isn't right. That's why it's a good idea to see the chiropractors a The Joint Chiropractic for an evaluation to help you figure out the underlying cause. In the meantime, there are a few things you can do at home to help you fight headaches naturally.
Harness the Power of Heat (and Ice!)
Nature has given you two very powerful things to use in the fight against pain, especially if you suffer from frequent headaches: hot and cold. The use of heat and ice to help quell the throbbing pain you feel in your temples can help you find relief. All you need to do is place a cold pack on your forehead for up to 15 minutes or place a heating pad or warm cloth on the back of your neck or head if heat is more soothing, such as when you have a tension headache.
Drink a Little Caffeine
You shouldn't head to your nearest Starbucks and order a venti triple-shot to ease your headache, but you shouldn't shy away from sipping on a little caffeine to help either. A cup of tea or a small cup of coffee can deliver just enough to naturally help relieve your headache -- but be sure not to drink too much, especially if you're close to bedtime.
Turn the Lights Down
Bright, flashing, or flickering lights (hello television and phone!) can cause headaches. If you have a headache, then you might want to try turning off the electronics and dimming the lights to help you relax a little. If it's the daytime and you find that you're feeling sensitive to light, then don't be afraid to throw on a pair of sunglasses or draw the curtains closed. Whatever helps.
Relax
Relaxation exercises can go a long way to help your headache go away. Yoga or a few simple stretches can help ease your headache away and help your body to release natural endorphins to help fight pain. The more you can relax, the better you'll feel.
