3 Tips for Making Resolutions
By Virginia Laird
This is the time of year the vast majority of people across the globe reflect on the past 12 months and begin to look forward to what is to come. With New Year’s resolutions on the mind, it is time to consider where to begin and how to make them a success. If you have ever set out on a resolution only to fall short a few months later, it is important to know that many people fall short in keeping their resolutions. Personal trainers suggest at least one of your goals should be a fitness-related goal and include the following tips to help make sure your goals are achievable, including:
- Make fitness goals simple
- Always include fitness goals
- Have a plan before the end of January
Make Fitness Goals Simple
When you look at the wide variety of fitness goals you could set in your aim, it is important to keep these goals simple. Trying to be too specific or difficult is the first step to impending doom. A simple goal may suggest how many times a week to exercise or a number of minutes to walk each week. Expecting too much from yourself (like exercising everyday) leaves no room for any wiggle room, illness, or life interruptions which are certain to take place.
Always Include Fitness Goals
Personal trainers suggest it is wise to always include at least one personal fitness goal each year. Fitness goals can help keep you focused on results, which can offer a great deal of motivation. If you, like many people, would like to lose a few pounds, tone up, or maybe have your sights set on running a marathon, then including a fitness goal in your resolution can help you take control of your life.
Have a Plan Before the End of January
Although many would suggest a resolution must be in place before the first of the year, some suggest it can be wise to take January to try out some of your goals and find out if they fit your lifestyle. As you try out the various goals, make sure to take note of how you may be able to achieve each. Establishing a plan of action is the best way to ensure your success. Tacking resolutions with no plan is setting yourself up for failure.
Now you are ready to get moving on your 2018 goals. Good luck and make sure to make your 2018 one for the books!
