Reducing Your Financial Stress

By Donna Stark

We've all been told that if we can reduce the amount of stress in our lives, we can significantly improve both our physical and mental health, but it's not always as easy as it sounds, is it? Especially if that stress is tied around your finances. Financial stress can occur if you don't earn enough money, if you are carrying debt, or if you have just experienced a traumatic and expensive event, but no matter what the cause, it's important to address the situation as soon as you can. If you can reduce some of your financial anxiety and the attention you give it, there's a chance you can start living and enjoying your life the way you wish. Take a look at some simple suggestions on how you can save more, spend less, and lose some of that unrelenting stress.

Subscription Services

Check your bank statements and look for those monthly subscription services that you signed up for when times were better. Then ask yourself some hard questions. Do you really need a music streaming service? Can you go without some monthly magazines? Are there any subscriptions that you completely forgot about and don't use anymore? It's worth a look-over!

Gym Membership

Maybe if you are lucky, you are only paying a few dollars a month for your gym membership, but if your membership is to the tune of a couple of hundred dollars a month, you may want to reconsider doing something else. You can either switch to a less-expensive gym, drop some of the extra charges, or workout for free in the comfort of your own home.

Home Services

If you can do it yourself, save the money. Services that provide house cleaning, yard work, car washes, or laundry can oftentimes be put to the side until things get back to normal. Sure, it may mean some extra work for you, but if you have other family members at home, that work can be divided between everyone and it won't be so bad.

Eating Out

Yes, cooking your own meals at home can be extremely time-consuming, but it can save you a ton of money in the long run if you are feeding more than one. An easy way to make it as uncomplicated as you can is to include everyone in the process. From meal planning to couponing to shopping to getting in the kitchen and actually cooking, everyone can have a role.

Save More and Spend Less for Stress-Free Days

Reducing your financial stress and anxiety can seem overwhelming at first but it doesn't have to stay that way. You just need to take that first step. For many, that first step may very well be an itsy-bitsy baby step, but that's OK. Because once that first step is taken, you will be more than likely to carry on with more! Good luck!
