Motivating Yourself to Get Out of Bed

Those bright, sunny mornings you got to enjoy during the summer are about to change with the colder months and it may impact the start of your day by tempting you to stay in bed much longer than usual. If you find yourself struggling to climb out of your cozy bed and open your eyes over the next few months, remember the following tips. They may be able to boost your energy and help you get the day started, even if it's still dark outside.

Be Consistent With Your Sleep Schedule

It was easy to do as a child, but now that you are a busy adult, sticking to a consistent sleep schedule may be more difficult, but it has to be done. Going to bed and waking up at the same time every day (including weekends) will make getting up on those dark mornings a little bit easier and will improve the quality of your sleep! Try to aim for at least seven hours of sleep, but if you can do it, eight would be even better!

Drink a Glass of Water

Before you even think about making that morning cup of coffee, help yourself to either a refreshing glass of cold water or a cup of hot lemon water. Drinking water as soon as you wake up is a great way to boost your energy and start the day's hydration process.

Automate Your Lights

The last thing anyone wants to do on those dark mornings is to wake up and blast the entire house with light. Baby steps are needed here and with some automated lights installed, it couldn't be any easier to do. Like a dimmer on a light switch, automated lights will slowly turn on and get brighter over a period of time. Basically, they simulate the sunrise and will signal your body to wake up naturally.

By signing up for an exercise class or agreeing to meet a friend for an early morning walk, you will have some extra motivation to get out of bed. In addition to holding you accountable, morning exercise with others will also boost your energy, improve your health, and help you stay connected with friends. It's a win-win solution.

Tackle Your Day With Enthusiasm

Understandably, you would like to stay in bed on those dark and dreary winter mornings, but you know it certainly won't bring any benefits. So, get up and tackle your day with as much energy and enthusiasm you can muster! And remember, spring is right around the corner and so are those bright, sunny days.
