Stress Awareness Makes Sense for April

By Brandi Goodman

Though the official first day of spring lands in March, April is the month most associated with the season. The month brings bouts of rain in many areas, promoting the growth of new life that has been dormant since the winter months. The season may be a time for growth, but it can also bring about stressful situations. Stress Awareness Month in April makes complete sense.

Stressed About the Mess

You may have accumulated a lot of junk over the holidays. You're less likely to get outside and take care of things that need to be dealt with, so an abundance of chores can build up. The windows may have been left shut for months, leading to an accumulation of dust and stale air built up inside the home. By the time spring arrives, you're highly likely to be stressed about the mess that's been growing. Spring cleaning is an annual occurrence for a reason. It's the perfect time to declutter your home and get started on the chores that have been waiting. Plus, cleaning can be a great stress reliever in itself. Turn up some energetic tunes and dance around the house while you clean. You'll feel great afterward.

Stressed About the Yard

It might not be the number of chores to tend to outside that has you feeling stressed. You could simply be stressed about the look of your yard in general, and wondering which plants you need to care for first and what new ones you may want to start. April is usually the ideal month to start gardening. Pick up a few of your favorite flowers and get them planted. Add new landscaping to spruce up the exterior of your home. Put up some spring decorations, such as a garden flag depicting the season. You'll feel less stressed when things are looking nice and coming together. Plus, gardening and decorating are excellent stress relievers in themselves.

Stressed About Health

Your health may have suffered over the course of the winter. You may have indulged in unhealthy foods, failed to exercise often -- if at all -- and not done your best to keep your body and mind feeling their best. If you're stressed about your health, the only thing to do is to get healthy. Start some better habits that can help get your health under control. Get some spring produce and enjoy an array of color on your plate. Amend your exercise routine to include outdoor exercise. Exercise and nutrition are two of the best stress relief options in all seasons.

Don't let stress get the best of you this spring. Stress Awareness Month encourages you to find the methods that work best for you to de-stress and feel your best about every situation you're in. Take it one step at a time and do what you can to find stress relief options that fit your schedule and your needs.
