Maximize Your Efforts at the Gym

It's always an exciting and promising time when the decision has been made to embark on a new (or better) fitness journey, but for so many, simply going to the gym just isn't enough to maintain consistency and find success. How many times have you justified a poor effort during your workout by telling yourself, "Well, at least I came"? The fact that you are in the gym and doing something is definitely better than sitting at home, but if you want major change and long-lasting results, those halfway efforts are never going to be enough.

You need to take your health and fitness seriously. Sedentary lifestyles are becoming an epidemic in our society and are one of the leading causes of weight gain, chronic pain, and disease. It is recommended that you get at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise every day, and even though on paper that doesn't sound like a lot, it may be if you just aren't excited about it. So here are some helpful tips on how to commit, how to stay engaged, and how to find success with your fitness journey.

  • Invest in a wearable device - Fitness devices that you can wear on your body are really helpful if you want to maintain a certain level of intensity, monitor your heart rate, or keep track of the calories burned. They help take a lot of the guesswork out of your workouts and keep you on track with reaching your goals.
  • Invite your friends - There is strength in numbers and there is no better place to have that strength than at the gym, so invite your friends to join you. It's the perfect way to maintain accountability, to challenge each other, to lose the excuses, and to share important health and fitness tips. Plus, it's more fun!
  • Keep track of your progress - Personally, when I find that I start to lose interest, it's usually because I feel like I haven't made any gains, but one way to combat that is to keep track of your progress. Then, during those moments of doubt or lack of interest, you can look back and see how far you have actually come. It's a great motivator!
  • Join a team - There are so many good reasons why people are joining adult sports leagues across the nation. Not only are they a great opportunity to socialize and have fun, but they are also the perfect way to add in some variety to your fitness routine.
