Preventing Back Pain One Tip at a Time
By Virginia Laird
Many people across the nation suffer with back pain without ever knowing the root of the cause. Some even spend thousands of dollars on visits to various doctors and a variety of tests trying to identify the cause as well as a solution to the pain. Chiropractors suggest the reason behind the pain can often be much simpler than one might expect. A few things to consider when ruling out the causes for back pain should include:
- Your love of high heels
- Your purse is heavier than necessary
- Your mattress is far too old
You Love High Heels
A love of fashion breeds a love of high heels. Chiropractors suggest that high heels can be the root cause to much of the back pain one could be suffering with. If you are suffering from back pain and find yourself wearing heels more often than not, it is highly possible a change in your footwear can help ease your pain. Chiropractors recommend those who love heels should try to keep the heel no higher than two inches.
Your Purse is Heavier Than Necessary
If your purse is anything like mine, it weighs upwards of 10 pounds. Almost anything can be found in my purse, and much of it is unnecessary. Toting a purse this heavy on the shoulder can pull at the spine, causing it to shift and even restrict function. Chiropractors recommend those who carry a purse should invest in a smaller bag so that it cannot be weighted down. Another tip offered is to select a bag with a long strap which would allow the purse to be carried across the body. This allows the load to be more evenly distributed.
Your Mattress is Far Too Old
It is true what you hear: If your mattress is over eight years old, it should be replaced. Chiropractors suggest that old sagging mattresses can cause much stress on the spine while you are sleeping. If your mattress is not over eight years old, but you find yourself struggling to get a good night of sleep or wake up suffering from back pain, it could still be time to consider replacing it.
