Chiropractic Care For Parents of Newborns
By Paul Rothbart
Few things in life can match the pure joy and magic of a child being born. It's a proud moment for the whole family. Congratulations, hugs, and cigars are everywhere. You can't wait to take your precious bundle of joy home. Caring for a newborn can provide a wonderful feeling of bonding but it is hard work. It can be exhausting and can even cause some aches and pains. New moms, and dads too, may benefit from regular chiropractic care.
Carrying Your Baby
Newborns can't yet walk nor can they crawl. You are the source of transportation. Babies generally are not very heavy, but constantly lifting and carrying them can put a strain on your back and arms. Even if you use a baby carrier the extra weight when walking can make your legs ache. Then there is all the baby gear. If you go somewhere with your little one, you need the bag. Filled with diapers, wipes, bottles, formula, all kinds of things that you need for baby care. Those bags can be pretty heavy and strain your body even more than your baby does. Carrying both is quite a load.
Bending Over
As any parent of a newborn can tell you, you bend over a lot when you have a baby. Taking them out and putting them into their cribs involves bending over the sides. This can put your back in an awkward position. You have to move slowly so you don't drop your child which can make the strain more intense. It can cause back or joint problems which can be painful and limit your mobility. As your child gets older, you then are constantly picking small objects up off the floor. Babies put everything into their mouths. Small objects are choking hazards and some may be toxic.
Seeing a Chiropractor
All of this extra lifting, bending, and carrying can cause problems such as subluxations in your back or joints. Your vertebrae may become compressed. Any of these issues cause pain and compression can put pressure on your spinal cord which can put the pain anywhere in the body. You may also experience tingling or numbness. Chiropractors can perform an exam and find any of these problems. They can then make an adjustment using a gentle manipulation. With the problem fixed, your pain can be reduced, allowing you to take good care of your baby and yourself.
Babies bring smiles to faces and being a parent is joyful. That said, caring for an infant can be a strain on the back and joints. Consider a visit to The Joint Chiropractic. No appointment is needed. Chiropractic care may help relieve your pain and allow you to enjoy caring for your baby.
