Improve Your Chiropractic Experience With 4 Tips
By Brandi Goodman
A visit to a chiropractor can do a lot of good for your life. However, the results may not be very long-lasting if you aren't taking care of yourself in the hours and days immediately following the adjustment. With some tips in mind, you can improve your chiropractic experience and be sure to make the most out of the care you receive.
Drink Plenty of Water
Water is necessary for so many systems and needs within the body. For example, small discs requiring water to help with shock absorption within the spine need to stay hydrated. Without adequate hydration, you're more likely to experience inflammation and feel pain. Drink plenty of water after your adjustment so your discs and joints have the hydration they need to keep your spine healthy and well.
Follow Posture Protocols
If you get an adjustment to help straighten your spine and improve your posture, you need to follow posture protocols thereafter. Continuing to sit slouched and stand to the side will undo all of the adjustments your body just went through, and only perpetuate the pain. Sit and stand upright with your spine straight and your shoulders relaxed so your posture continues to be correct and not aid in your discomfort.
Take the Day Off
While it's perfectly acceptable to head back to work immediately following your adjustment, it may work better for you to take the day off instead. Your body could use the rest and recovery time. Plus, a common cause for back pain in the first place is stress. If you know going back to work is just going to stress your body out more, then take the day to relax instead -- if possible.
Set a Sleep Routine
Your body needs adequate sleep if you have any hope of maintaining the care the chiropractor provided. Sleep is necessary for recovery and healing. If you don't currently have a sleep routine in place, now's the time to set one. Make sure you go to bed at an appropriate time the night of your adjustment and wake up after a solid eight hours of rest. Continue the routine thereafter so you can maintain your well-being. Good sleep is important for your health and to help fight pain.
You can improve your chiropractic experience if you keep these tips in mind. Don't go to the chiropractor and then immediately return to your unhealthy habits. Your body will feel better when you're getting enough sleep, drinking plenty of water, and taking the breaks it needs from stressful situations. Continue to maintain good posture and keep your spine from suffering. Visit The Joint Chiropractic when you're ready for your first adjustment.
