Chiropractic Care For Shin Splints

Shin splints affect more than just joggers. Jumping rope, walking far distances, and even chasing after children on the playground can all cause the burning and tightness in the shins that indicates the development of shin splints.

Shin splints affect people differently. For some the pain recedes when the triggering activity is stopped. Unfortunately for others, the pain from shin splints can become a chronic condition that results in a continuous pain, even when the instigating activity is cut out.

Dealing with shin splints in a straightforward manner that gets to the root of the problem is best. The condition revolves around the shin bone in the front lower portion of the leg. The thin bone located close to the skin plays a large part in many forms of physical exertion because it acts as sort of shock absorber for body movements like stepping, toe raising, while also supporting the arch of the foot.

There are some common causes for shin splints, which include:

  • Not stretching before jumping into an exercise routine
  • Walking, jogging, or sprinting on hard surfaces, like concrete
  • Not selecting the correct typeof footwear for a given sport
  • Over straining the body during physical activities
  • Not taking sufficient rest between periods of exercise

For immediate first aid that can be done as individual doctors recommend rest and icing down the shins. to prevent shin splints from becoming a permanent injury, however, seeking chiropractic treatment is wise . Chiropractic care can not only treat and rehabilitate shin splints, but also makes them less likely to occur again in the future.

Chiropractic treatment for shin splints reduces pain from this condition. In some cases pain relief is achieved in just one visit. Other times the pain is slowly reduced over a period of visits. Chiropractic care aims first and foremost to manage and relieve pain before moving onto further therapeutic measures, like aligning the body.

Chiropractic adjustments for the body attempts to correct problems by looking at the whole picture. By seeing that the entire skeleton is balanced correctly, it promotes the healing of specific locations, because the complex network of nerves and ligaments running through the musculoskeletal system are able to function efficiently. Because the musculoskeletal system is interconnected throughout the whole body, adjustments to the spine can affect distant other body parts, like the shins.

Shin splints, however, can be effectively treated by chiropractic adjustment of the calf, ankle, and foot. These procedures help the muscles to stretch so that blood can flow more freely in these areas.
