How Chiropractors May Help Alleviate Back Pain
A rapidly growing number of Americans are turning toward chiropractors to get relief from pain. While many people are finding the relief they need, others are still uncertain of what a chiropractor does that can benefit them.
One thing that a chiropractor will not do is to prescribe pills that will numb your senses and make you unable to work. A chiropractor will not prescribe any pills.
Instead, a chiropractor will primarily seek to realign your spine. When your vertebrae are not properly aligned this causes tension and pain on your central nervous system. These problem areas are called subluxations and can prevent the proper functioning of the body to heal itself. They can be extremely painful at times and may even result in other health problems.
Once the vertebrae are realigned through the chiropractor's expertise and manipulation, the pain is greatly reduced and may even disappear altogether. Other health problems may also disappear, once the blood is enabled to obtain a normal flow and bring the nutrients needed to the problem areas for healing.
A chiropractor will often use ART, or Active Release Techniques. This simply means that they will manipulate soft tissue. Besides this method, they may also use electronic devices to stimulate and relax muscles. Exercises are another tool that may be used to help restore circulation and improve your range of motion. Above all, you can be sure that they will not do any surgery.
When a visit to a chiropractor's office is made, the first thing that will be done is to perform a physical exam. This will probably include an x-ray so that the spine or neck bones can be seen clearly. This will let them see any problems such as wear, misalignment, or other problems. Afterwards, a plan for treatment will be developed, and the chiropractor will first seek to help relieve the pain. Several weeks of treatment may be needed, depending on the seriousness of the problem, but people often continue to get treatment to ensure better health.
