Selecting the Right Chiropractor
One of the best parts of chiropractic care is the bond that it builds between doctor and patient. If you’ve never been treated by a Doctor of Chiropractic before, you may not be sure how to go about finding the right one. Here’s what you need to look for.
What Methods Do They Utilize?
Some chiropractors use their hands while others believe in utilizing instruments to make needed adjustments. Still others prefer to use a combination of both. If you have a preference for one type over the other (personally, I prefer the human touch), then you’ll want to find a chiropractor who meets your requirements.
Do You Keep Hearing Their Name?
One of the most common ways people find a chiropractor is by word of mouth. Ask your friends and family for recommendations. A popular chiropractor is one you can feel comfortable with; however, you may have a harder time getting an appointment.
Are They Capable of Meeting Your Needs?
If you have a specific health problem like MS or osteoarthritis, you may want to find out if your chiropractor is familiar with them. Ask any potential chiropractic provider about what treatment method they recommend and how your care will differ from that of other patients.
Are They Reputable?
You may wish to ensure that your prospective chiropractor is accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education. While you’re doing your research, it may be beneficial to determine whether or not they’ve ever had any disciplinary action taken against them. It’s also acceptable to ask for references from current or former patients that they’ve treated.
Do You Like Them?
This is probably the most important factor in finding a chiropractor. Unfortunately, it’s one that many of us don’t take into account. The ideal doctor should be a partner in your health care, which means you should feel comfortable communicating with him or her.
The best chiropractors will be knowledgeable of your condition and attentive to your needs. While it may take a little bit of effort to find your perfect chiropractor, it’s an effort worth making. A little work now will ensure a long and happy relationship for both of you.
