Make Your Chiropractic Care Work for You
By Brandi Goodman
Chiropractic offers a lot of benefits. That is, as long as you follow through with their recommendations. An adjustment can only help for so long. You need to take the chiropractor's advice to heart and work to make improvements in your life if you have any hope of maintaining the results. Make your chiropractic care work for you by doing these few things.
Drink Water Before and After Your Visit
Your body won't get adjusted very well if it isn't limber enough to be manipulated. You should drink plenty of water before your adjustment so the procedure can work efficiently. You should also keep a bottle of water in your car that you drink following your visit. It will help to hydrate your body further and allow the adjustment to work to the best of its abilities.
Follow Exercise Instructions
You may receive specific exercises to try if you have pain in a particular area or need help strengthening another. Some chiropractors may show you how to do these moves, while others might provide a picture that depicts the necessary movements. Whatever the case may be, always follow their exercise instructions and do the physical activity your chiropractor advises.
Stick to Their Hot or Cold Therapy Plan
Certain aches may require additional therapy plans beyond an adjustment. If your chiropractor suggests using cold therapy, such as applying an ice pack or a cold compress to a particular area, stick with this plan. If the chiropractor advises using a heating pad, then only use this type and do not attempt a cold version. Each option has different uses and advantages, so it's important you stick to the one recommended for the best results.
Get Regular Adjustments
Even if you do everything instructed after your first adjustment and feel great, there is still a benefit to repeat visits. You should receive regular chiropractic adjustments if you want to maintain your good feeling and prevent any future pain from developing. If an ache does arise, you'll know you have a plan to receive chiropractic sooner rather than later.
One trip to the chiropractor isn't enough to completely correct your posture and have your body feeling great. You need to do what you can to make your chiropractic care work for you -- and ensure the results are long-lasting. Start with a visit to The Joint Chiropractic and be sure to follow these recommendations and any further instructions you're given.
