Traveling With Baby: 4 Chiropractic Tips
By Brandi Goodman
Travel can be stressful on anyone. Add a baby to the mix and it can be even more daunting. With some chiropractic tips in mind, traveling with baby can be made a bit easier on the back and mind. Just don't forget your baby gear so you can keep them occupied or you'll really be regretting it.
Keep the Car Seat in the Vehicle
Many parents load their infant into the car seat and then carry them both out to the vehicle. The heavier the child gets, the heavier the load you're carrying becomes. Avoid the strain that this can cause by keeping the car seat in the car. You can cover baby up with a blanket and carry him or her outside instead to place them in the seat. You'll have to do it when they're older anyways and use a convertible car seat. You may as well start getting used to this method now even when they're infants.
Get in the Car to Buckle Them
You may find yourself standing outside of the car leaning in to buckle your child. This may have you twisting and hurting your back. Get in the car to buckle them instead. You can place a leg up at the very least so you give yourself some leverage or completely get into the vehicle so you can sit and get situated before you tackle the task.
Use a Front Carrier
A back carrier can place stress on your back. Use a front carrier with proper support instead. Carrying baby throughout the store or anywhere else you'll be walking around for awhile helps to prevent pain. Holding them in your arms will have your back and shoulders hurting fast, and you definitely don't want to lug a heavy car seat around.
Get Regular Chiropractic Care
Your back will be hurting often when you have a baby. All of the lifting, carrying, bouncing, and other activities you do to keep your baby cared for and occupied can quickly cause unexpected pain to set in. You'll be traveling with baby to the store, special outings, and perhaps an actual trip or two, so get regular chiropractic care to keep your back and body in the best condition possible. It will help you to handle all it is you'll have to do for baby.
Keep these chiropractic tips in mind and traveling with baby should be easier to manage. Less pain for you means a better mindset so you can deal with any other unforeseen circumstances that may arise. Always expect the unexpected when you have a baby in tow, and one more thing: Prepare. For. Anything!
