5 Tips to Help you Quit Smoking

Smoking tobacco has its list of dangerous and long-term health risks. While it may be a concern of those who are smokers, the addictiveness of smoking may be stronger than the health risks involved. Are you looking into kicking the bad habit, but don’t know where to start?

Whether you have tried quitting for years or have finally made the decision to start today, there are some great tips and ways to begin your journey to quit! Read more about ways to help you transition out of smoking and positive habits to develop.

Eat small portions

When you first begin to start your journey of quitting, you will be tempted to grab onto a new habit and sometimes it can be a negative one.

Food can sometimes be a support system for many smokers and while eating is not bad, it is best to choose the best foods to munch on. When you begin to gradually kick the habit, make sure to snack on health foods and lean meats, to help control possible weight gain.

Sipping through a straw

You may not notice it, but your mouth has been doing one thing for many years that has become so habitual that you may not even know it: sucking.

While it may seem mediocre, the act of smoking is not only just an act, but a routine that your body will not be able to quit suddenly. Sipping drinks through straws helps your mouth and body maintain a common activity, without the extra added toxins and chemicals that smoking adds to your body.

Money Jar

It isn’t rocket science to know the amount of money you are spending on a daily or weekly basis for cartons of cigarettes. When you begin your journey to living a smoke-free life, keep a jar in your home where you can put the money you would be spending on cigarettes. After a month, count it and see how much money you have saved!

Brushing your teeth often

While this should have already been in your health regime, sometimes smokers skip brushing their teeth because of their smoking habits. Now that you have begun your smoke-free habit, opt to brush your teeth at least twice a day. This helps your urge to smoke, as you have just brushed your teeth!

Cutting Back on Alcohol

This may be sometime hard to kick, especially since you have taken such a great step in stopping one bad habit. But you will see that when you consume alcohol, it is one of the main reasons you may feel urged to light up a cigarette.

Why alcohol?

Alcohol allows your inhibitions to disappear and with them goes your ability to self-discipline. If you do choose to drink, make sure to have friends help with not smoking around you and keeping items such as gum or small snacks around to help with your mouth sensations.
